Me and granny are still packing my clothes. Ready to leave this place any moment.
"Nana, why did you leave the party?" I ask.
"How can I continue enjoying the party when I know you're somewhere hurting? Today was your day, and you were the one supposed to enjoy it, not me. And I couldn't stand that arrogant Alpha of yours," she replies. " He just continues like nothing happened," she adds, feeling the disgust. Though I don't really blame him. Why would he worry about someone like me? He hates me.
"Thank you, Nana. You really are the best," I hug her, fighting back tears. She's the only one who shows me love in this place. Everyone doesn't care, actually they may be happy that I got rejected today.
"Let's finish up, so we can leave this place," she says. Indeed, we pack the last of my stuff. She offers to give me a ride since it's already late.
"You're going to stay with me at my place," she tells me. Shocked, I'm quick to refuse the proposal since I know it's not going to work out.
"No, Nana, your Alpha wouldn't allow someone like me on their pack," I tell her.
She chuckles in response. " Ohh you. I'm no longer at Moon Crest Pack. I leave alone far from the pack, at an old abandoned farm. We can stay together there, I don't have a problem with your staying. You can stay for as long as you want, " she offers. An excellent offer. It would be fun to really spend my time with her.
" No Nana. It's about time I learn to stand up on my own. I can't be dependent for the rest of my life. And I might as well do it now, " I reject the offer. I know it's good, but it's even better that I find myself in life and not stay dependent.
" But you don't even have a job. Where are you going to go? " She sounded really shocked to hear me say.
" I don't know. Probably another country. And I'll have to look for the job. I'm serious, Nana, I want to be my own person. I don't want to burden you, " I reply.
" But you can never burden me Amber."
" But it feels like it. You don't have to worry, Nana, I'll be fine, " I assure her. She still didn't seem any what convinced.
"At least I'll help you out, until you're okay."
"Thank you, Nana. We should be going now. I don't want the Alpha to personally kick me out," I tell her. We pack my bags inside the car, and soon we are driving away. I didn't even bother to say goodbye to my own family, I know they don't care.
It actually feels remarkable that I'm leaving my pack. Like a heavy weight has lifted off my shoulders. I feel free for the first time.
Staring out the window, I watch our territory disappearing into nothingness. The place I usually call home. I should have left this place a year ago, if I didn't have to repeat a grade. When Kamila failed a grade, forcefully, I also had to repeat. Even got blamed for it, and even today I still don't understand how it was my fault.
It might be terrible, but there are some moments I'll miss. Like my favorite waterfall down in the woods.
Not many people know about it, since they already have a swimming spot, which I was not allowed in.
And our pack is really big, I believe maybe only the pack scouts know about it, but don't give it much attention. But I did, whenever days were hot, and I needed to free my mind.
Or my favorite oak tree. The tallest of them all. Where I'd climb and scout the whole territory from it. I could see almost everything, including the rogue territory on the other side of the river.
At times, I was scared they would attack and no one would be close enough to save me. But they never did, perhaps they are too scared to. And I really never paid much attention to it, only continue to enjoy myself.
Nonetheless I can always make new memories. And possibly even make better ones.
We drive the entire night , I don't know, for how many hours. Even during the day, we were still driving. We would only stop to relax, have something to eat and some bathroom breaks.
We only stopped driving the next morning. And I'm definitely certain this is not my world. It mostly humans, but maybe I'll blend in just fine. Humans don't know who I am, and surely don't care that I'm wolfless.
I think I might fit in just fine. All I need is a place to stay and a job. Thinking about jobs, that might take a while.
"Look, I already got you a hotel room for the week. That's where you'll stay while I figure out a few things," Nana says. " I'll be gone for a few days, and I'll come back to check up on you," she continues, sounding distressed. " Remember, if it doesn't work out, you're coming to stay with me."
"You have nothing to worry about, Nana. Everything will be fine. Just do what you have to do, " I say to her.
" Let me help you inside, " she offers. We both take my bag inside. The receptionist was very nice, and soon we were inside the room. And it looks wonderful and so expensive.
" Nana this looks expensive, " I cry, unable to keep my eyes all over the room.
" I just want you to be comfortable, my baby. Look, you should relax meanwhile. It's been a long ride. I'll have to make a few calls and see what I can come up with."
" This place is huge. I can't believe I'll be staying here." I just couldn't close my mouth about it. Not only that, but I'm over the moon with excitement.
" I'm going, but I'm coming back, Amber. "
" Go, Nana. I'm fine. I believe nothing will happen to me in here. You have to stop worrying yourself. "
" I love you, okay. I love you so much, " she embraces me.
" I love you too, Nana, more than anything in this world, " I respond to the hug.
" Are sure you're going to be okay?"
" You're worrying too much. I'm not a child anymore, " I say.
" I'm flying, so it shouldn't take long. I'll call the hotel as soon as I land." She finally agrees to leave. " I love you, sweetheart. " She waves as she walks away. I give an assuring smile that I'll be okay.
A wave of excitement washes me as I explore the room. I feel like screaming because I'm finally free. This feeling is just remarkable.
