Me and my family stand by the door of the massive hall. We have to greet and welcome the guest as the Beta family. I wouldn't join, but granny insisted that I do. Which none of us were happy about it. My presence is very demeaning for the rest of my family. Everyone wondering how did they end up with someone like me when they are so powerful.
Very embarrassing for me since everyone who passes by is belittling me. None of them take me seriously and some even feel disgraced having to be greeted by a lowlife like me.
And I stand there anxious. Worrying my mate might show up and reject me in front of my family.
But something jots me out of my thoughts. A sweet fruity scent, that grabs my attention instantly. It doesn't only grab mine, but the rest of my family. And I wonder they can smell the exact thing I'm smelling.
My wolf senses are very terrible, but now they seem to working full force.
Almost immediately, my eyes land to another pair of eyes. A very handsome gentleman standing right in front of us. All eyes on him but his wonderlust-blue eyes staring right at mine. With hardly no expression in his face. His obsidian jaw clenched tightly, his burly physique overpowering everyone around him. And he somehow looks mean and cruel.
Yet, this man somehow is my mate. I should be jumping up and down with excitement, but with his expression, I'm second guessing everything. As though he would chop off my head if I ever got close to him.
"I, Alpha Asher McCain of the Moon Shadows Pack, reject you, Amber Summers, as my mate and Luna, " when he opened his mouth only painful words came out. Tears move uncontrollably down my face, and my heart shutters into a thousand pieces. It's as if he ripped it out and threw it on the dance floor and everyone started dancing on top of it. I'm lost for words, I failed to even open my mouth. I just look at him, so he could see the hurt in my eyes.
In his face, there's not even a bit of emotion, like he didn't just reject his mate. With a tiger like tread, he moves past and into the hall. Followed by his giant supposedly bodyguards.
I then feel a pair of arms cuddling around me. It's granny, and she too looks torn to experience that. I should have known.
"It's going to be fine, Amber," she tries to comfort me.
"No, it's not," I cry, pushing her away. I run away from everyone, straight into the forest where I can be alone. I just have to rethink my life. If I want to continue like this.
My mate just rejected me in front of my family. Am I that disgusting to everyone? Why do people hate me so much? What's wrong with me? Why can't people love me?
I run down the forest, dodging the falling branches. The cold breeze partly drying my tears, but more come streaming down.
Finally, I can hear the water ahead. That's when I know I'm far enough from everyone. I sit down on the floor and start wailing on my sorrows.
Hating my life with every little thing in me. Even a thought to end my life, but knowing grandma still loves me, stops me from taking my own life.
I just can't wait to graduate and leave this place. I just can't take it anymore. Maybe life will be better where no one knows who I am. Might be I'll find someone who will accept and love me.
Laying my back on the floor, I just watched the stars with my tears still flowing like water. Suddenly, I'm actually happy that I got rejected. Knowing that I don't have to keep on worrying about it. Suddenly, I feel a bit more of relief in my heart. Perhaps I'm only acting this way because everyone tells you rejection is the worst thing that can ever happen to a person, but it's actually not.
Thinking back, it's not even the worst experience in my life.
It's supposed to be excruciating, but I think I'll heal. At some point, I notice it's nothing more than being rejected by your blood. I've faced rejection my whole life, and shouldn't bother me now.
I'll just have to do what I have done all my life. Which is to accept my fate and move on. I should just accept the rejection, so we can both move on with our lives.
I snort as I recall even thinking of killing myself because of a man I barely even know. Life is just something else. I brush off the tears, and peacefully continuing to watch the stars. Enjoying the cool fresh air, and soft noises from the trees.
" Amber, I need you to please leave this pack this moment," suddenly I hear a deep voice all around me. I sit up, searching, only to find out it's in my head. It's a mind link, from the Alpha. How does he even know my name?
"Wha-what do you mean I should leave the pack?" I cry with bewilderment.
" I mean, you should go and pack your bags and leave this instant. I don't want to see you here tomorrow morning. Do you understand? " He responds, sounding grave. He was not kidding at all.
Is he chasing me out of the pack?
"But where will I go at night?" My heart is pounding heavily, and I'm even feeling tears burning my eyes once more.
"I don't know. I just want you out of this pack," he says, dropping the link. Is it because I got mated to him? But it's not my fault.
He didn't even seem to care that it's the middle of the night. He just wants me out of the pack.
I force myself up and start moving through the massive trees. Headed back to my house. I just can't believe my luck. First rejected and now chased out of the pack.
I just feel crushed. My whole body feels heavy, like I'm carrying a huge weight on my shoulders.
I find Granny already waiting for me in the house.
"Amber? You're back. I'm so sorry about what happened. But don't worry, it's going to be alright, my baby. I'm here for you," she says as she rushes to hug me.
"Well, not for long," I sniffle as I fall helplessly between her arms.
"What do you mean?" She cries.
"The Alpha is kicking me out of the pack. He said I should be gone as soon as today?" I report. I still don't believe that he's actually kicking me out. Simply being his mate, has caused him so much hatred towards me. But he rejected me already.
"When? How? That's impossible! " She sounded shocked.
" It is. He's the Alpha. " I say.
" No, let me talk to him. He can't… "
"Don't bother Nana. It will only make things worse. I've always wanted to leave this place anyway," I reply.
"Where are you going, Amber? In the middle of the night?"
"I don't know. But clearly not anywhere near this place. People here hate me, Granny. Even my own family hates me," I cry, chocking on my tears.
"No Amber. I love you."
"And you're not from here." I sob even more. " I'm going to pack my things," I add, headed to the basement where most of my things were located, leaving granny in the living room.
Tears fall to the ground as I fold my clothes. I just can't believe it. A part of it just feels like a dream.
"Well, let me at least help you pack." Granny comes in carrying a huge luggage bag.
"Why do you think everyone hates me, Nana?" I finally question with even more tears in my eyes.
" You're different, Amber. And it's hard for people to accept something they don't understand. They can only accept one of their own," she answers.
