Today it's been a busy week for Kamila, meaning for me too. She's up, and she's down, preparing for the big event. And I'm running around, going wherever she orders me. Well, at least, we are done writing the finals. Meaning, I'm only waiting for my graduation.
I'm not even invited to come to the party, and yet, I'm the one doing the most. The decorations have been taken down, I don't know how many times. When ever she's not satisfied, I have to take them down. And do it all over again. Helping her choose from a million choices of clothes.
Soon I was back home, ready to go to sleep finally. But it seemed I was not going to sleep at such an early hour. My grandma is here. And automatically I'm the happiest girl on earth.
"Granny!" I rejoice as I jump in her arms the moment she walks inside the house. It's been so long since she's visited us, and I'm so happy that she's here. At least I'll get to enjoy my birthday.
"How's my little angel? I've missed you so much," she welcomes me to a warm bear hug.
"I'm fine, Nana. I'm just so happy that you're here," I cry. Soon everyone is in the room to meet her. It's easy to tell that they are not so happy that she's here. That they have to pretend that they love me and that we're one big happy family.
"I'm happy to see you too, angel." She pulls away from the hug and gives me a warm kiss on the forehead. Yeah, this is amazing. The only person who doesn't treat me like I'm some kind of alien. Someone who treats me like an actual person.
I'm glad I have her. Her visits are what I need to keep me sane in this place.
" Kamila? You're so skinny. Why can't you look healthy like your sister? " Granny eyes Kamila up and down. It's no secret that Granny loves me best. She doesn't like Kamila because she's too spoiled, she says.
" Nana, how is Amber healthy? I work out every day, Amber has never worked out a day in her life," she protests.
" Maybe you should start eating every day instead," Granny claps back. Kamila huffs, turning to my Mother for help.
" Don't you think you're being too harsh, mother?" Veronica tries to back up her beloved daughter.
" Someone has to since you've spoiled her so much," Granny replies. " Take my bags to my room, Kamila," she orders. Kamila stands there puzzled and clearly feeling insulted by it.
"Mom?" Dad tunes in to help.
"I'm not your mom, Jonathan," she claps back. " Kamila!?" Kamila jumps, still amazed.
"I'll do it, Nana," I attempt to help as I see Kamila in misery.
"No, Amber, I already asked Kamila to do it. I won't let them exploit you," she says. " And you need to rest. Tomorrow is your birthday."
My heart jumps with shock. I had completely forgotten that it's my birthday tomorrow. Because the only time I get to celebrate my birthday, it's when granny is around.
"Kamila, chop chop!" Bored, granny claps in her face, startling her.
She grumbles as she reluctantly goes to carry the bags. Inside I want to laugh so bad, but again granny is not here forever.
"And so, why are you here?" Veronica question clearly displeased.
"Ohh now I need a reason to visit my child. Well, if you must know. I'm not here for you, I'm here for Amber," she responds.
"Amber? " She's shocked.
" Yes. It's her birthday tomorrow, " she reminds her.
" It's Kamila's too, " Veronica states.
" I know Veronica. " She grabs me by the waist, guiding us to the living room. " Now tell me Amber. How are you going to spend your birthday? " She asks as we both sit down on the couch. Almost forgot how comfortable these are.
" I don't know. " I say a little embarrassed that I don't have any plans for my own birthday. But it's not like I have enough money to do that.
" What do you mean, you don't know? Kamila is throwing a party for the two of you tomorrow, isn't it? " She asks.
" Actually, uhh…"
" Actually… I am throwing a party for the two of us. It's going to be so amazing! " Kamila cuts in as I attempt to answer.
" But… " I immediately close my mouth as she glares at me, signing I should keep quiet. She knew she would regret it if it didn't include me. Granny wouldn't allow such to happen." Yes, it's going to be awesome… " I mumble between my teeth.
" I'm happy to hear that. "
"Let me make you something to eat. You must be tired from travelling," I offer as I rise to the kitchen. I make something to eat for the two of us. At least today I don't have to serve the whole family, Granny wouldn't allow it.
We chat with granny until late, catching up. Again, the topic winding up to the mate topic. She's still encouraging me that I'll find that someone special, but I don't believe it. I don't believe there's a bond strong enough to make that happen.
The only person with so much hope, is Kamila. And I understand. She's strong and beautiful. Anyone would love to be her mate.
And since it's her 18th birthday too, she's most likely going to get her mate. But I'm most likely going to be dealing with rejection for the night. Almost scary, since I don't have a wolf. They say rejection is the worst feeling, and you'll need every support to help you through it.
At least I have my granny to support me through it. Though it's not an appeasing feeling to think of from that view. I should be happy about it, like everyone else.
