I'm laughing to myself because Salel is so irritated with the vamp, and she looks so cute when she is upset. The guy walks off with her fries, and we get up to leave so we can make it to New York. I hop into the driver's seat and head down the road when my phone rings. I don't recognize the number, so I use a professional voice as I answer the phone. "Hello, this is Diamond." "Diamond, how have you been?" I hear a female voice ask. Salel shifts in her seat uncomfortably and puts on her headphones. "I'm sorry who is this." "Its Ashley," Oh really and what makes you think I would want to talk to you?" "Diamond please just listen to me, I am sorry for everything I put you through before you were banished from the pack and I want to make things right between us. This b***h has some nerve if she thinks I will forgive her. I questioned my sexuality and beliefs because of her. She made my life a living hell. I hang up the phone and grip the steering wheel until my anger finally cools down.
The silence in the car was short-lived because my phone rang again with the same number. "What Ashley?" I answered the phone with attitude. "Please, Diamond let me explain," you have five minutes." "Diamond I was always jealous of you because you lived the life I was afraid to, I thought if I was mean to you that would somehow make me feel better, but it only made me feel worse." "The night you took me into the field I finally thought me and you could, could be together like I always dreamed. "What so I could be some kind of undercover lover for you Ashley?" I ask her with tears brimming my eyes. "No I wanted to make you my girlfriend, but I just didn't know how." "Well how about a civil conversation or a date, you didn't have to call me names and make my life miserable because you couldn't embrace who the goddess made you. " I know nothing I say will ever be enough to ease your pain because words are useless but I am hoping I will be able to show you soon." And how do you plan on doing that, I am no longer a member of the pack if you haven't forgotten. "Well they sent out emails to every one who will be attending the academy and I saw your name. WTF. Since I am an Alpha's daughter, I am attending the academy to get the training I need to run the pack. "Please just give me a chance to show you better than I can tell you. "You get one chance Ashley," I tell her as tears fall from my eyes, "but just to let you know I may have forgiven you but I will never forget."
I hang up the phone and wipe the tears that won't stop running down my face. I just can't help thinking why now. It has been months since I left my last pack and no contact at all, just silence. When I shifted alone at that hotel, silence. When my parents would not speak to me. Nothing. I let my intrusive thoughts take over as I sped down the highway. "Time heals all wounds," I hear my wolf say. "Our destiny is so much more than what we have been through," "So now you want to try and talk to me after being alone for so long huh." I am beyond furious at my wolf, The one who was supposed to be there for me in my time of need." " I will not lie to you and what I say may hurt you, but it needs to be said." "I thought you were a petty human for what you did to Ashley and the hurt and loss you caused our parents, I am a reflection of you so I thought I would be petty with you as well." "You forgiving Ashley without my input is part of the destiny the Moon Goddess has planned for us.
I shove my wolf into the back of my mind, so I can focus on the road and how I am going to cope with having to see Ashley every day until I graduate. I am just glad I have Salel now and her birthday is in a month, and she will know who I am to her and hopefully accept me. I have been driving for about 6 hours and GPS says that I am about an hour away, but I can not control my bladder anymore. There is a gas station about a mile up so I started to wake Salel. "Babe get up, Salel we are almost there and I am going to stop at this gas station so we can use it before finding a hotel. Salel wakes up from her sleep and stretches and yawns before she blinks those beautiful eyes around her surroundings.
"Where are we?" About an hour away from the city love." We pulled into the gas station that gives off big city vibes. It is massive, almost like a shopping mall. There are about 30 pumps and it is brightly lit. Salel and I get out of the car, and she reaches for my hand. "This is the first time I have ever left the pack, and I'm a bit nervous." I pull her closer to me and lead the way into the gas station so we can relieve ourselves. We headed to the bathroom where there are about 20 stalls. There are some stalls with bill acceptors on them and we both look at each other dumbfounded until we hear a shower start up behind one of the doors.
After using the restroom and washing our hands we head back into the main gas station and browse around for something to eat. There are all kinds of meats and cheese, olives, a salad bar, and lots of different stations where all types of foods are being cooked. We both agree on barbecue brisket sandwiches and potato salad. We also grab lots of snacks and microwaveable food for the hotel room. Salel pays for our purchases and gas to fill up the car and we head outside. I am pumping the gas when it feels like I am being watched and the hair on the back of my neck stands up. Salel is in the car tearing into her second sandwich when I notice a guy a couple pumps down looking like he is fighting his wolf for control. I hang up the pump with 10 bucks remaining and high tail it out of there. "Wtf Diamond, you still had 10 dollars left to pump." "Did you not see that guy staring you down like a midnight snack, He was a tanned guy with short dark hair and a scar across his left eye, not bad looking but creepy as hell. He had to be about 6'5 and I could literally see him fighting a shift.
Salel laughs and tells me that I am just over reacting. Maybe I am, but there is no way I would risk putting MY Mate at risk.
