Highway To Heaven

Diamond and I have been driving for quite some time now. We are currently in Ohio and still have quite a ways to go. "How much longer," Diamond whines. "We are just getting started, don't be such a cry baby." "Can we at least stop to get something to eat." "Sure Big Back, the next place I see we can stop." We drive for about another hour before we see a diner s***h gas station on the side of the road. Great killing two birds with one stone.

I get out of the car and basically had to run to catch up to Diamond, who was already holding the door open waiting for me to catch up. We walk into the diner and I sniff the air to see what kind of territory we are in, human or shifter. I smell wolf for sure with the undertone of something spicy I have never smelled before. "Hey y'all, welcome to Tim's Town Diner, sit wherever you like," a waitress says while coming from behind the counter carrying two plates of burgers and fries.

We slide into a booth and make ourselves at home. As I am scanning over the menu, the waitress who has a name tag on that says Tammy comes over to see if we are ready to order. Diamond orders chili cheese dogs with fries and a soda, and I order their signature monster fries with cheese, ranch, brisket, jalapeños, bacon and bbq sauce. "Oh Tammy may I please have an orange cream milkshake." Sure thing honey," she says and walks off to place our order.

"Salel, do you smell that, it's like a spicy metallic smell almost." "Yea, I picked up on that when we walked in." Tammy brought us our drinks, and we took in the other patrons in the diner. There were two men sitting at the bar talking quietly. One of the men look absolutely massive sitting at the counter, so I am sure he is a wolf, and the other has a slender build, and I am pretty sure he has the spicy smell. The massive man is chowing down on his burger while the other man is casually sipping on what looks like a Strawberry soda with extra strawberry.

"Never seen a vampire before," Tammy comes over and ask as she sets down our food. "No actually, this is the first time we have left our pack." "Well you have alot of learning to do little Missy," Tammy says as she scoots in next to Diamond. "You can always tell a vampire by their smell, they are all different but have the same spicy undertones." "Shouldn't we avoid vampires, I thought we were like mortal enemies," I ask her. Where did you live under a rock hun, times have changed." "Every race mingles with every race now, even humans know about us." "Almost every human has a cousin or in-law that is a supernatural."

I am absolutely stunned by this revelation. Our pack is so far behind in the ways of the world. I am starting to think that I just might not be ready for the world. "Tammy are you over there talking about me?" The vampire sitting at the counter asks. "Nope, not this time just schooling these young ladies on how to avoid a playboy like yourself." In the blink of an eye the vampire is sitting next to me digging into my fries. "Hey, you did not put in on these fries sir! "Sir, who am I my father," The guy says. "No, I was just being polite, but since politeness is something you cant comprehend, Hands off asshole."

"Wow, Tammy I like this one." " I'm Zane and you are." "Not interested." I say irritated. "Well, what happened to that politeness." "You blew right through polite when you stole my fries." I am very irritated at this point and am ready to go. "Wow I've met were bears with smaller appetites."

"Excuse me Zane is it, I have had a tough day and would like to just relax and enjoy my fries." I was hoping he got the point and moved around but he still sat there talking away.

"So where are you girls headed, do you need any company, nice car." It just never ends with him. I dig into my fries while Diamond entertains Zane telling him about us heading to school. "What coincidence I will be coming to the Supernatural School of arts too, but aren't you headed up bit early. School doesn't start for a few more weeks."

"We just wanted to get familiar with the city and take care of a bit of business before school starts. " We have to find a place to stay and get our portfolio started for our new business. "Salel here is going to be a fashion designer and I am going to be a model and manager. "

"Wow I never would of guessed your friend here had passion for anything besides food," Zane says and we all laugh. Tammy gets up and goes to set up a young couple who just walked through the door with a cranky toddler. " Well you ladies are in luck because my uncle owns a property management company in the city and I can hook you up with his number if Salel shares those fries.

"Fine, have at them. Zane gives us the number and walks off with the rest of my fries. I fix Diamond with a glare and steal one of her fries. Diamond finishes her food and sets money and a generous table on the table for Tammy. We head for the door and Zane tells us he will see us school in about a month.

Diamond and I get into the car and prepare our selves for the last stretch of the trip. We plan on getting a hotel until we can find a stable living situation. Diamond's phone rings and I put on my headphones to give her some privacy since she is hands free on the call since she is driving. I hear a female's voice and try to stifle the growl I'm barely containing. I end up falling to sleep hopeful of our future.
