Chapter 4

2248 Words

4He woke up to the sound of water running. He thought he was at the bottom of the ocean. Only at the bottom of the ocean, water is everywhere so he probably wouldn’t have heard it running. The world around him was blurry. He thought he’d already opened his eyes but then they opened for real and everything was solid and heavy in the lines. “Alexei?” Dmitri was beside him on the bed. He looked concerned. “It was you . . .” he started and then closed his eyes again. When he opened them the second time he was alone in the small, closed room. There were two beds, two desks, two chairs, and a small fireplace that was lit. Alexei tried to move but he felt the stiff ache in his lower body and sighed. Dmitri came back into the room with some soup. “Are you hungry?” His voice was flat. “No.”
