MortalityAugust went down the pathway first. She was dressed in all black except for these yellow rain boots with ducks on them that looked like they were made for children. And for some inexplicable reason, she was humming a warm little tune. Garnet couldn’t quite place it, but as she followed the pathway downward, she started to remember it. The song August was humming was What Child is This? and ever so softly the notes rang out sweetly into the raw, cold air. The words came to her lips, but she never spoke them.
