Chapter Two

“You are twenty-eight son! When do you intend on producing an heir for the empire?! You’re our only son, you have a responsibility to fulfill. You need to give us a son as young as you are, so that he has time to grow and get used to the business empire, his inheritance. I need to be alive when you finally bear me a son.” “When I’m ready to get married father, I will get married.” “Not when you’re ready to get married Louis! You have to get married, it’s not a choice that you have, it’s a necessity for this family. It is important for this family lineage to be carried on. Listen to me, and listen very carefully, you either bring home a bride, or else I will have a bride picked for you.” With that his father stormed out of the room while mother walked in. “Louis, why have you not brought home a wife?” “You’re asking me to bring home a wife like they sell her in one of the stalls on my way home. It’s an entire process,” “And you have not even begun stage one. You’re a stuck up human being, you hardly hang out with your friends, always locked up in your room in front of your system, or your busy burning your life away at the gym, all of the physique and yet no bride to show for it. Who are you working out for then?” “My mental health. Myself. Why must you tie everything to marriage? Is that the only purpose there is to be fulfilled in life?” “No. It is your only purpose right now that is pending, it needs to be fulfilled.” “I have not yet met the right girl.” “All the balls your father has hosted, not a single girl caught your eye. All the weddings that you have attended, not a single maiden caught your eye. Your unrealistic standard cannot just be met. Women of our standard, our class have been groomed to only serve their husbands. Searching for a woman who is as obsessed with the work of a man like you are is impossible. Reduce your standard just a little bit and maybe you will find the right woman. I need a daughter in law that I can talk to as if she is mine, someone homely, caring, soft spoken. Absolutely nothing like what you have desired for your future spouse.” “Build her, and marry her then. I’m off.” “Where are you going to young man? I’m not finished with you.” “What again do you have to say mother?” Louis said completely frustrated by the discussion. “You completely avoid scenes where your father has tried setting you up with the ladies. They’re all so gorgeous with beautiful shape, why don’t you give any one of them the chance?” “I’m clearly not interested in them.” He said grabbing his keys from his table, “look, I need to go to the site where they’re constructing the new mall, my current project at hand. Love you ma, bye.” Louis said as he gave his mother a peck and ran off before she held him back. She watched him leave while her face held frustration. So there we have Louis Tomlinson. The only son and the current heir to the Tomlinson enterprise, and empires. Louis is twenty-eight years old, hobbies include golf and anime at any given opportunity. At the same time he is an insane workaholic, coupled with heavy alcohol use. He has a white buzz cut hair with black beards and side burns, not too heavy on the mustache but he lets a little bit remain just for the ‘aesthetic’. Six foot four in height, with a well built physique that has all the ladies gawking, coupled with the tattoo of a Chinese proverb behind his ear, running down to the beginning of his collar bone. His eyes are grey and always hooded, the sleepy kind of eyes. He has no friends, but if he’s meant to consider anyone, it’s his childhood best friend who is the complete opposite of him. The total life of the party, ready to settle down in marriage, attends every ball and party than anyone could ever imagine. Louis got into his SUV waiting outside driving out of the house while he played his favorite A teenager in love by Dion the Belmonts. He sang alone tapping on his steering wheel as he drove down to the site where the mall was being built. Parking outside the uncompleted building, he turns off the engine of his car and stepping down he walks inside to inspect the work that had been done so far. The site where the mall was built was sitting directly beside a church. Louis listened as he heard a beautiful opera music coming from the church. “What lovely voices,” he said as he left the site he had originally gone to inspect and walked down to the church where the music was coming from. Standing outside the door, an old lady greeted him with a smile. “You should come in, the Lord would be pleased to see you.” Louis returned her smile as he accepted her invitation walking into the church. He watched as the old ladies and gentlemen were standing in a uniform manner, dressed in overalls sang beautifully to St. Matthew’s passion. Louis took a seat beside two ladies, one with ginger colored hair and the other a black short hair. He watched keenly as the rest of the members of the church made a wonderful presentation each, making him feel a sense of comfort and peace. “Oh my goodness! I don’t want to get married to any of your suggestions aunt,” Louis heard an argument coming from close by. He noticed that it was the ginger head girl that he sat next to during the service. He moved closer to have a better hearing on her discussion. She was standing in front of a matured looking lady, with a face fully caked with compact powder and heavy blush on her cheeks and bright colored eye shadows. “You’re going to end up old and wrinkle looking with fifty cats if you keep up with this attitude of yours. No man likes a woman that is so obsessed with her career.” “Aunty, that’s not even my issue. Even if these men were to approve getting married to me, I would spit on their faces. Aunty I don’t want a man that looks like your husband. Just look at his face, he can’t even take good care of himself. You can’t even have your daughter married off to a man like this so why are you forcing me?” Louis was very interested in the conversation they were having, he was intrigued by the fact that for the first time, he had met a lady who was refusing to be pressured into the standards of society, and more so still stand her ground. “I’m only trying to help you, what has my husband got to do with this discussion. Why do I bother to talk to you, I will show them to your mother. You should be ashamed that your cousin and your best friend are getting married before you and you don’t even have a boyfriend to show for it. This is just a lesson that beauty is not all that there is to life,” her Aunty said snatching her phone out of Edwina’s hand and walking away defeated in her purpose. Edwina turned around to find Louis staring completely at her. “Hello, can I help you with something? You’re staring at me and it’s creepy.” She said to him. “Hi, I’m Louis,” he said stretching his hand out for a handshakes. “I know that she involved you in this, so please I don’t even want to listen to anything you have to say. Go and find something else to do with your life, don’t even bother about chasing a girl like me because I’ll drop you like a pack of cards.” Edwina said as she got into her car and drove off. Louis looked at his hand that was still waiting for a handshake. He smiled, folding his hand and dipping it in his pockets. “Something about rejection, makes me want to chase the more. The fire in her tone is just so attractive.”
