Eleanor
My senses were overloaded with emotions tonight. The visions had come, one too many. We will have to leave this place soon. I was yet to know if that would be a good or bad thing. I felt that two types of groups were searching for us. It was unclear who would arrive first.
Needing some of the cool, crisp fresh night air. I stepped out onto the spacious magical balcony, where a breathtaking view greeted me. It overlooked a verdant garden with floating flora and fireflies that twinkled like stars. A gentle breeze carried melodies of hidden fairies playing a soothing tune on tiny instruments.
This place was well hidden from the human eye. The city fairies have housed and protected us in this extraordinary condominium for the past ten years here in Aurora, Illinois, in the well-known area of Maywood.
Things were well overdue as I stayed in my thoughts. It was time and we were ready to face it head-on. Frankly, I had been long tired of hiding and waiting, Parisa had had enough fun with her foolery. I missed my son so much and that ache would never go away until I saw him again. Everything I did was done to protect him, his father, and the kingdom. As a mother, I did worry that when he returned someday after the block was lifted would it send him back there and would he be able to handle the danger?
There were friends in the kingdom that would help him upon his arrival. I had foreseen some things back that were enough to help me plan beforehand. If I hadn’t seen what I did on time on that day, Parisa’s plan would have succeeded without fail.
A pair of strong slightly muscled arms wrapped around me and together we stood on the balcony. Cian stood tall and regal behind me, with a commanding presence that exuded both grace and power. His wings are a mesmerizing sight to behold. Translucent and delicate, they appear like iridescent butterfly wings, but grander in scale as he wraps them around me too in a second warmth of comfort. The colors shift subtly as they catch the light on his wings, displaying a spectrum of colors, and I am entranced by the beauty that is my fairy king.
In his presence, I could not help but feel a sense of awe and reverence. There were times that I still couldn’t believe he was mine and mine alone as a mate. From the moment I saved him from a vicious plot against him and our eyes connected, I was drawn to him in a soul-bonding like a moth to a flame.
At that time, I thought he wouldn’t want someone like me, but he did. He wanted both the Seer and the human part of me without fault or judgment. I could not help but love him wholeheartedly as he did me.
We stood on the balcony in silence reminiscing. Thoughts of our firstborn son echoed in our minds, the heartache about having to leave him behind and the birthright he would have to face a full stream soon approaching. A deep emotional sigh left my lips, I would not cry. I had missed so much of his life and there was so much I had to tell him. My heart was an aching mess at the moment, thinking of the sacrifices the three of us were forced to make. The sound of footsteps could be heard behind us, coming from the kitchen. With a smile on my face, I listened intently because I already knew what was about to happen. My love kissed the top of my head before releasing me from his embrace. We had fallen into a sweet domestic routine, one I would definitely miss once our lives were soon uplifted.
“Guess that’s my cue love, you just stand out here and relax,” he said, heading over to the kitchen, equipped with state-of-the-art magical appliances.
“Dad! It's doing it again!” our daughter Niamh exclaimed, as Cian approached the kitchen. Her finger was pointed toward the cauldron. A giggle escaped from me before I could stop it.
She never seemed to make peace with the old talking cauldron here, as it began to stir itself, mixing the ingredients Cian had pre-cut and filled it with previously for tonight's dinner. He donned his magi oven mitts just as the ray of freshly baked rolls appeared in his hands. Ever since she was little, this condo had taken a shine to her. Mostly it was in the kitchen with the cauldron and enchanted cookware that she had a problem with. Stating the place was mocking and nitpicking at her.
A wave of sadness encased my heart again and my smile died down. Thoughts of my Acusla (Darling) Vincent sprang to mind again. The bond that my children should have grown up having was snatched away by that evil woman. I made up for it the best way I could by making sure that his sister knew about him.
It had been a hard choice to make, for Cian to temporarily abandon his kingdom. At the time, he had no choice and he wanted his people to learn a valuable lesson. This was a harsh way to do it, but I agreed with him fully. Their close-mindedness and conceited views had led them down a path to being deceived. They should have followed and believed their king when it came to his people's best interest at heart.
He had also been dealt a heavy blow himself by Parisa, who considered him family and someone he could trust. He was blindsided because of this and their friendship was used against him. It was my limited seer vision and small insecurities that built up a platform for Parisa to play on. At one point, I really did believe that Cian and she had a secret relationship going on.
Things escalated with the constant delay of our nuptials. On top of that, on the day before our wedding when I was accused as a traitor, he did not fight for me or refute it. He believed Parisa’s every word as if he were possessed. No matter how hard I begged and pleaded for him to believe me, he allowed her to do as she wished. It didn’t occur to me at that time that something was off with him until after I was brought to the dungeons. Vincent, along with my dear friend Ava, came to rescue me that night and it was here that my son mentioned that his dad smelled funny.
Cian had actually been locked up in the Dark Tower three days prior to my being set up. The potion that Parisa had given him, did not bear fruit as she intended. She gave him a choice but he refused, so she switched him out with a Skinner. She tried a body snatcher first but the process hurt them too much. With the help of a man named Suxhen, I was set up and sentenced to death. That had happened many years ago, but had she yet to realize Cian had escaped? I found her stupidity funny. If she cared, she would at least check on him.
It took a month for Cian to find me and by then I was already three months along. I really thought he had betrayed me, so it took a while before we could even talk. After finding out what Parisa had done to him, it didn’t surprise me about her actions at all. Cian told me he never took my words for granted. As a Seer he knew I could not lie.
Parisa wanted Cian for herself and the title of Fairy Queen, but Cian kept his distance from her on account of me, our son, and respect for the rules of the kingdom. We didn’t know how many she had pulled over to her side, but we knew it was not by honorable means. If we did go back, our people could make a better choice and follow their king, the right side where they always belonged.
We also didn’t know how the kingdom was fairing during this time or if our people had learned their lesson. It was a dangerous thing to live in someone else's illusions. The time had finally come for the true fairy queen to take charge. To stand by my man and be his strength, to lead our people back from the darkness.
For it was my fate, Eleanor Akira Seelie, to finally show Parisa what I was truly made of. Paving the way for our son was the least we could do, we already owed him so much and that woman did too. Karma was coming for her from the deepest pit of hell. I couldn’t wait to see what kind of man Vincent grew up to be, with the battle that was coming his way, my instincts sensed that he would be more than ready. This was his birthright and his destiny.
