CHAPTER 21
NO ONE CAME
**BETTY’S POV**
Lisa took me outside again the next morning.
I didn’t ask where we were going. She had stopped explaining things, and I had stopped caring enough to ask. As long as we weren’t heading toward the training grounds, I could deal with it. We followed a narrow path behind the pack house where the grass had grown too high and vines covered most of the old fence. Most of the deeper bruises from the other night had already faded the way they always did with our healing, but a dull ache still lingered in places I didn’t want to think about, so I kept my pace slow.
Eva hadn’t said much since the night before. I could feel her there though — quiet and close — and I was beginning to think she was afraid I’d shut her out again.
