CHAPTER 24 THE COUNTDOWN BETTY'S POV I kept my eyes on the piece of wood in my hands even after Alex disappeared from the doorway, but his presence seemed to linger long after he was gone. I could still feel the weight of his gaze against my skin, and when I looked down, I realized my fingers had tightened around the carving knife until my knuckles had gone pale. "Relax," Lisa murmured. I loosened my grip and placed the knife on the table. "I'm fine." Lisa gave me a look that made it obvious she didn't believe me, but she didn't ask about Alex.
