Playing God

The evening we had was amazing, I felt like a new person and yet more like myself then ever before. As it got later in the evening, when we were heading to bed I pulled Deacon along with me, not ready to be apart from him again. Now that I had experienced that connection I did not want to risk not feeling it. As we dropped into bed I noticed that his touch still sent a tingle through my body. He pulled me close to him, my back to his chest and his face nuzzled into my hair. I was amazed by how natural this felt since Marcus would never hold me like this. I also realized that thinking about Marcus I no longer felt hurt for what he did, but annoyed that he thought he had the right to decide my life. I knew I wanted answers for what had happened and tomorrow I would make a plan for getting them. Tonight, I decided that sleep was what I wanted most. When I awoke the next morning our sleeping position was a little less cute and a bit more a tangle of limbs. One of my legs was wrapped around his, and I had an arm across his chest while he had one under my head. It looked a bit like we had a mid sleep wrestling match, and if we did I hope I won. The thought made me smile and in an instant I knew that had an effect on Deacon. A warmth crept over me and when I looked up he was smiling, though his eyes were still closed. "What are you thinking about that is making you so happy?" He asked, his voice still thick with sleep. "That I won our wrestling match last night." I answered, which first earned me a confused look then a hearty laugh. I was so distracted by the sound of him laughing that I missed his quick moves that moved him from tangled in me to above me. Applying just enough of his weight to make himself known, but holding himself up so he good look into my eyes, I realized how charged the room was becoming again. "Sweetheart, when we wrestle, I always win. If you need a demonstration, I will happily oblige." He said, with a wink. Without letting me answer he captured my lips in a kiss that took my breath away. His hand in my hair caused me to gasp and he deepened the kiss in that moment, which I did not complain about. Again, we were interrupted by Roman, this time banging at the bedroom door. "Could you two keep it in your pants until she has that power under control? It's making everything out here staticky and I don't want to get zapped putting toast in." He challenged. This instantly broke the kiss but we stayed in our moment for a few more minutes before deciding to join Roman to start the day. When we entered the kitchen I saw Roman trying to lower bread into the toaster with a wooden spoon, I could not help but laugh at the image. He gave me a scowl, but seeing me he also threw the spoon to the side and approached the toaster with caution. Clearly happy to not be shocked by the kitchen appliance he came to sit beside me at the island, where I was munching on some of the fruit he had sliced for himself. "First you charge everything in the building in an effort to shock me, now you steal my food. What's happened here? Where did my sweet and kind Isla go?" He asked with a pout. I knew the air had felt different, but I did not understand what he meant by charging everything. "When we come into our powers, or come back into them, for a while we can release a lot of energy into the space around us. Much like an aura, we are able to influence elements around us. For you, electricity it seems. Let me guess, when you first felt the change coming last night you felt like you were being zapped by tiny shocks?" He asked me. "Yeah, it felt like everything around me could erupt into an electrical storm. Is that normal? Is that why the storm came?" I was enthralled by the idea that any of it was caused by me. "Normal yes, the storm, sort of." Deacon offered as he opened the fridge. "We all have our own experience, Roman caused a tornado when his came back. Category 3 wasn't it? Mine was a wildfire, thankfully where we were had limited plant and animal life to be impacted. I genuinely think yours was the most chill, nothing major mentioned yet about the storm." He finished. I nodded with the conversation, understanding the elemental idea and accepting the idea that there was so much to learn. As Roman ate his breakfast, and Deacon got me my own so I would stop stealing, we talked about what we wanted to do today. "I want to see what it is we do, and I want to go out. Can we do that?" I asked as I stuffed my face with strawberries. Deacon looked pensive, weighing the options but Roman just lit up. "Yes! I think that is a perfect use of our day. I was also thinking Deac, we should go see the twins. We haven't talked much about what happened in your human life but they may have answers." Roman added. I had no idea who the twins were but I liked the idea of getting answers. I shared that I wanted to start looking into what happened to me as well. I asked when my funeral was supposed to be, which felt like a weird question to ask, and stated that going may get us some answers. Roman looked at his phone for the info, as Deacon was still quiet leaning against the counter. "Looks like your funeral is in 3 days sweets, so we have time to make a plan. Deac, what do you think? Go see this Marcus face to face, see if anyone piques our interest?" Deacon looked up finally, sighing and running his fingers through his hair. "We should go, get answers, but Isla," He started. I knew I was not going to like what he was about to say. His tone and pleading eyes were telling me this was difficult for him. "If you don't have your powers under control by then you can't go. I get you want answers, we all do, but we can't have you blowing up if you find something out that you don't like. We all just got back together and another outburst could lose us all more than just a couple centuries, it could cost us our lives." He stated. I could tell he truly believed what he was saying and I wanted to hate him for it but he was right. We needed to be strategic here. I finally asked again what happened that has us sentenced to human lives. The guys looked to each other but then Deacon nodded and sighed again. "We were stationed in the middle east, we were influencing some humans, and watching some contacts in something much bigger. Remember, there is a lot you don't know yet. We were watching these villages and people, and enjoying life, then we were given some information that another type of supernatural had stepped out of line, was taking too many lives to stay hidden. We tracked them and found what we were told was their compound." Roman explained. I still did not even know about other supernatural beings much, but now I knew we had contact with them. "When we attacked we leveled the place. I don't mean simple destruction, we ripped its existence from the world. After we learned that it was a town, we killed thousands of humans, many of which were needed for the future of that countries development." When he finished speaking I could not stop myself from feeling overwhelming guilt about what happened. I did not remember it, but the idea that we were tricked hurt, I knew none of us were viscious and the idea we had hurt innocents was awful. Deacon saw the tears in my eyes and came to hug me close to him, giving me the chance to feel the pain I needed to. I asked if we ever found out who had tricked us and he said no. We had been tried and sentenced before we could prove it and since being back they had not had the heart to look into it. Now we had two things to research, first why my lovely human boyfriend ended my life, then who framed us. "What type of creature was it that we were watching? Or that we thought we were after?" I asked, curious to learn more about the world I am a part of. "They were Jinn, a type of spirit that can take control of a body, pushing the human soul out to own the body. The information we had told us they were tricking humans into their death and storing the bodies for a large group of Jinn." Deacon explained. "And that is exactly why we can't go to the twins. I am not entirely sure they want to be helpful to us." "Maybe if we had actually killed a horde of their kind, sure. We didn't though, and besides, they aren't the most conventional Jinn we have encountered." Roman shot back. At least now I knew who they were. Deacon thought about it and decided after we deal with knowing how I died and why, then we could see about talking to the twins. "Alright, we avenge my death, then we avenge our lives. Sounds like we have a plan, so what are we going to do until it's time to go out?" I asked the guys, eager to experience more. Roman said working on controlling my aura would be a good start, and I liked his method for testing it even more. "So, I get to spend the day in the arms of this man and it's all in the name of 'science'?" Gee, how could I ever commit to such a thing?" I answered with a giggle, while pressing myself against Deacon. He seemed to like the idea as well, smirking at me as he held me close. "To be clear, I said activate your aura and teach you to reign it in. I am unsure where you got, 'fool around with Deac', from that." Roman answered rolling his eyes at us. I just shrugged and replied that it seemed to be the best way to activate it, so why not go with it? Deacon agreed and ushered me off to the bathroom. The next few hours were spent in the most agonizing bliss, pressed together on every surface of our room. At first it was mere seconds, but slowly I learned how to keep a block up between my abilities and my emotions. Even Deacon and I agreed that moving beyond our heavy petting would be a bad idea before we knew I could keep it together. That did not stop me from enjoying the feeling of his skin pressed against mine as much as possible. During one of our breaks I asked about the elemental ties in our powers, if it was something we could call on all the time or if it was just something there when we were gaining our abilities. "Think of it like this, we have a day job, which is our ability to influence. We work as fates or suggestions to the humans. However, when needed we become warriors for our side in the war between the factions. That is where our elemental power will take effect. They also help at times when we are ordered to cull the humans, who else could create a flood other than a group of supernatural warriors?" Deacon explained. It all made sense to me in a twisted way, we played God to the humans and fought gods in our realm. Finally, it was time to get ready for our night out. After dinner I showered, did my hair in a sleek pony, and makeup in a dark bold eye. I knew I wanted to make the boys drop dead and now thar I could glamour so humans could see me or not at will, I could be myself. Emerging from my room I saw Roman had stuck with his usual look, t-shirt slightly too tight, dark wash jeans and a matching dark sneaker. Deacon however made my mouth water, which quickly had me working to keep my aura in check. A black button up with the sleeves rolled up, dark wash jeans and a casual sneaker. When both men looked at me I knew I had done my job. A satin black dress, tied behind my neck. The back open down to just where my hips sat, the skirt ending just a few inches under my backside. Black strappy heels finished the look, making me feel sexy and powerful. "Bro! Isla is looking to cause some trouble tonight!" Roman laughs. "Keep this on, you remember to watch yourself. If this becomes too much you tell us and we will make an exit. The club we are going to is owned by supers, so we can get out quick if needed." Deacon explained, adding the cuff to my wrist. "Now, any chance I can convince you to change before we go? This dress is testing my control as well." He admitted, which just made me lean in and give him a chaste kiss as I said no. "Let's go cause some havoc!"
