LUCIAN POV. A large conference room is silent. The long table is lined with somber board members dressed in the most expensive suits as they murmur among themselves to decide the company's affairs. The board decided to announce the new CEO of the company, since my father, who is now late, was the former CEO of Ambani's empire. Made some conditions that must be met by the new CEO who would take care of the affairs of the company. I couldn't care less about the conditions, I didn't even consider knowing them because I have given too much for the survival of this company. Because of my great achievement in this company, the company ranks number one best companies in the world as I have branches all over the world doing well and ranking best in their respective locations. Having confidence in myself as I have worked and served this company bringing it to the present and unchallenging position it is now. As the board members conclude for the position of CEO of Ambani's empire the best of the best companies in the world which has been headed by me Lucian Ambani. Drawing one's attention as they clear their throat. “After much consideration, the board has reviewed your proposal and after much considerable deliberation, the consensus has now moved to a different direction, “said the Seo as other board members shook their heads in approval while some avoided my gaze. “What do you mean?”I said with a straight voice. “Due to the conditions your father laid down before his passing, the fact that you are not married and don't have a child, the board has decided to hand over the company's affairs to your step brother Lucas here who is married with a son,” he said as our eyes locked. Feeling my anger rising. “ I gave up a lot for this company, made the company the best of the best, made it the leading company over every other company in the world,” I said as my voice fixed but laced with anger and Coldness. “But you all old cargos sit here and tell me some cooked-up bullshit, and expect me to take that from you and just go home huh,” I said as I leaned further resting my arms on the table. “That's why we will be giving you three weeks to get a wife as our patience is getting thin and there will be no excuses as you leave us with no option,” he said as his voice spat warning to my ears. “Where did you expect me to get a wife? huh, from heaven, or do I go around looking for women who are ready to get married.” I said as my voice slightly raised. “That will be your problem Young Man as we have made a decision and it's yours to decide,” he said relaxing more in his chair. Anger began to fill the air making the air thick with discomfort as the anger in the air can cut through the surface. Some board members avoid my gaze, while some nod their heads in approval of the new decision made. My fist clenched and trembling, my veins bulging against my temples. My breath came in short, and Sharp burst, fogging in the cold air around the board room. “You've crossed the line,” I said as my voice Echoed against the glass walls. The thick air was laced with discomfort as members avoided eye contact, nervously shifting their chairs. The Seo was about to speak when I cut him off with a sharp gesture, sweeping a stack of papers to the floor. Without waiting for a response I pushed my chair backward with a grating screech, the sound making everyone flinch. I stormed towards the glass doors, my shoes thudding against the floor in a rhythm that matched my rage. As I reached the door and flung it open with force that rattled the walls leaving it swinging precariously on its hinge. The silence I left behind was deafening, broken only by whispers of the murmur of board members. I entered my car, as my mind raced into the meeting I just had with the board. How could they? I asked no one but myself. Drifting my mind to the past. I remember when I worked day and night for this company, now they want to shove me in a corner and tell me rubbish, and the worst part of it is giving my company to Lucas, I knew that Lucas was up to no good but making the board rule at his favor using the opportunity of my marital status to gain the company he went too far. Surely he crossed the line this time. I have always neglected his foolishness and shortcomings but this time he has eaten more than he could chew. Drove down the road at full speed as my blood boiled at the thought of Lucas taking what's mine. I pressed more on the gas as I jolted down the road and held the steering wheel tightly, as my knuckles turned white. My foot pressed hard on the accelerator, the speedometer needle climbing past 80mph. The roar of the engine echoed through the empty suburban streets as I sped through, my face tense, my jaw clenched. Paying little attention to the glowing red light ahead. A woman in her mid-20s, in a torn dress. She was struggling to maintain her stance. Still distracted I ignored what was at the front as I still wallowed in my anger. I snapped my eyes back to the road, slamming on the brakes, but the tyres screeched helplessly on the slick asphalt. The impact was sudden and brutal. The car hood crumpled slightly as the woman was thrown onto the windshield with a sickening thud, cracking the glass in a spiderweb pattern. Her body rolled off hitting the ground, and as my eyes widened in shock at the realization I killed somebody I sat frozen still unsure of what to do. Panic set in as I decided to carry her to the hospital and face the consequences of my actions or flee.
