My mother taught me all the things a good girl needed to attract and keep a husband and run a household. I studied the piano, not as well as my brother though. I was taught to paint and sew. I tried to paint landscapes and flowers. Pretty little stills that all young girls painted. But they usually came out much darker. I liked to draw the forest behind our house with different beings among the trees. Once I became much more adept at my powers, I spent many an afternoon in the kitchen with our cook learning how to make all kinds of food, from boiling an egg to baking bread and brewing a cup of tea.
