Lucifer sat in the depths of hell on his throne. For millennia, he sat and watched humans become more destructive and spiteful. He hated them. He would never understand God’s love for them. Especially after they killed His son, His most precious son, and continued to kill, sometimes just for fun and often in His name. Still, God loved his humans and forgave them all their sins. Why was it so easy for him to forgive them when He would not forgive His most loving and loyal angel, His light bringer? Lucifer shook his head, he no longer cared for God, he only wanted revenge, for now he ruled hell and watched over the tortured souls as they arrived, each as guilty as the next. Every day more souls arriving to be tortured. So much pain, anguish and guilt. He did not enjoy it as humans thought he did. The humans brought themselves here, unaware of their own guilt that they held onto from their life, blaming him for their sins and cursing him for all eternity ‘the devil made me do it.’ He was tired of it. He hated being here, he hated his existence. He spent most of his time watching his heirs, waiting for the one who would break his curse.
Lucifer did enjoy sending his demons to earth, only his most loyal soldiers, to cause havoc. These soldiers had been part of Lucifer’s army in the heavenly war, and when Lucifer was cast out and fell, these soldiers had fallen with him. They had been twisted by years of being in hell and watching humans have everything they ever wanted, God’s unconditional love. These soldiers became dark and jealous beings. They began to torture the humans that arrived in hell and became more bitter. Lucifer knew they would never leave him and that they would be loyal to him for all eternity. Only his trusted circle was aware of the prophecy and knew Lucifer would take them with him when he went to rule the realms.
They caused havoc, yes, but also to keep an eye on the daughters and look for signs of his heir returned. Part of the chaos were the relationships the demons formed with humans. The demons did not love, and they were short-lived relationships, sometimes producing children. Children just like his daughter. Although their lines would never be as powerful as his, there was still power amongst them. Lucifer’s most loyal demon, Belial, however, did form a bond with a human woman. He truly loved her and stayed with her for some time on earth. He never told her who he was and when she had a child, he was tempted to tell her everything and stay with her, defying Lucifer. But he knew he could no longer stay. Soon after the child was born, Belial left his human lover. He did not return to hell as he should have but wandered alone on earth for many years watching his child grow. Lucifer understood that love, though he was surprised that one of his demons was capable of it. He thought them too twisted. But the genuine love in Belial’s eyes as he gazed on his child was enough to know that they were capable of love if allowed. If a demon could love, why could God not love them still?
But nothing else mattered when Katherine was born. She was his, his queen. She would unite the realms and help him to rule them all. He felt a shift on the earth when she was conceived, and he could sense her power the moment she was born, his power. She was beautiful, even more beautiful than Eve, more beautiful than his daughter. Just as he had prophesied so many millennia ago. He was relieved when she finally arrived. After all his waiting, she was finally here. Soon he would walk the earth again, and he would find his way back to heaven. This time for all eternity.
As he watched Katherine grow, he fell more in love with her each day. He also saw a vampire following her. A vampire who knew about the prophecy. No other beings were supposed to know of it. He knew the vampire wanted to know the young woman’s powers. Watch her, test her. He didn’t like the presence of the vampire. Though he knew the vampre would have a part to play in the prophecy, but not for some time yet. She needed to learn her powers and grow.
Lucifer could send visions and dreams to his children. He could warn Katherine about the vampire, prepare her for the vampire and his son. The vampire had power too. He had gifts before he was turned and that gift had developed, but Katherine would be more powerful, even as a human, she could resist him, resist his influence. He lingered in the forest watching her. It was not right. She was his, she would never be the vampire’s. Lucifer was jealous of the vampire, knowing how close he would be to her. He would still have to wait centuries for a relationship with Katherine.
Lucifer called for Abaddon, one of his trusted demons.
‘Yes, my lord, what do you require of me?’ He asked as he knelt in front of the lord of hell.
‘I need you to go to earth and follow the vampire prince Leo. I need to know what his plans are. He is following Katherine. I can’t see what he is thinking. He can hide his thoughts from me. She is still a child, and I don’t trust him.’
‘Yes, my lord, I will find the truth and report back to you.’ With a nod of his head, he left Lucifer to go to earth. Abaddon was often sent to earth to run errands. He always enjoyed his time there. He could complete his task and still take time to enjoy himself with the humans.
Abaddon arrived in England, not too far from London. It was always hard to find an entrance point to earth. Depending on the location of arrival, it would require a boost of power from Lucifer himself and a well-timed portal. They were not easy to come by. But every so often there would be a displacement in the walls between the realms that they could slip through. The demons could never get to heaven though, and angels could not get to hell. It was only ever to earth and back again. Not that Abaddon ever wanted to go back to heaven. He was happy with his current existence. He enjoyed hell, he hated humans more than any of the others, though perhaps not as much as Lucifer.
Glastonbury was the closest portal to Katherine. With so much energy and power, it was easy to see why so many beings were drawn to the area. Witches, demons, werewolves, fey and angels would all arrive there. Even humans were drawn to the energy of the place and the power the different beings brought to it. This portal was the easiest to get through and was almost always in place. It was so strong it did not require a boost from Lucifer, only his permission. Once through, you could only see the displacement if you knew what you were looking for. It was inside one of the oldest trees in the area. It was centuries old and had been planted by witches over intersecting ley lines. There were other portals on earth, but this was one of the strongest and the closest to Katherine. She was still a few miles away on horseback, but he could make it by night fall to the forest behind her house. It was not the first time Abaddon had come to earth to watch Katherine. He was here when she was born. He watched it and could feel her power as she arrived in the world. He wanted to kneel in front of her and worship her. He was drawn to her power, as he had once been drawn to Lucifer. He had known it wouldn’t be long before other beings started to follow her and wasn’t surprised when Lucifer asked him to return to earth for her.
Abaddon knew how much it pained Lucifer to not be able to return to earth. It had taken all his power to be able to be with Eve as long as he did and create the first witch of his line. Lucifer’s curse had meant a weakening of his power from spending time on earth. It was most likely the love between the two and his children that allowed him to stay for as long as he did. He knew Lucifer hated to send his soldiers and only watch. His power was slowly returning, but it wasn’t enough yet. Now Katherine was here, soon Lucifer would regain his full power and reign over all the realms and come and go as he pleased. But first Abaddon had to find the vampire prince and watch him. Lucifer didn’t trust the vampire; most vampires couldn’t be trusted. This vampire would be king someday and Katherine would be a princess. Abaddon wanted to stay with her, watch over her until she gained all her powers. But Lucifer would never allow him to stay on earth for that amount of time. He would get the information needed and get back to Lucifer. He would stay away from Katherine, this time.
Abaddon arrived near Katherine’s house in the early evening. He smelt her before he saw her. She smelt like fresh rain on a sunny day, with a hint of something burning. He guessed that was her power, Lucifer’s powers, like lightening. He also smelt something else. He took a deep breath. There was an angel in the forest as well. He growled when he sensed it. He didn’t like it, and hoped the angel heard him. He had heard rumours that angels were watching Katherine too. They were vengeful beings, and he hated them almost as much as he hated humans. He did not want to be seen by an angel here, but he could not leave yet.
He hadn’t realised Katherine was in the forest and quickly hid to watch as she walked nearby and hid from the angel who no doubt could smell him too. The young girl, Katherine, was the most beautiful human he had ever seen. The only human he had ever wanted to be around. He could see her as she would be, not the child she currently was. That was his gift, the ability to see someone’s potential. It was why he had followed Lucifer all those millennia ago. Abaddon saw his potential. He saw Lucifer’s power; he saw him ruling over everything.
Katherine would be the most powerful being the world had ever seen, as powerful as Lucifer, perhaps more so. When they both came into their full powers, nothing would stop them. He wanted to walk over to her and kneel at her feet. But he kept himself in check. She was still a child and had no idea of her future or her potential and vowed silently to serve her always.
About an hour after she passed by him, Abaddon knew there was a vampire nearby. He wasn’t sure if it was the vampire prince, but once he saw him, he knew it was. The prince walked to the edge of the forest and watched the house for some time. He closed his eyes and after a few minutes he smiled and said to himself, ‘yes, it is her, she is the one.’ Abaddon noticed the air around the prince changed, it blurred for just a second, almost like his future was changing, like he had made up his mind about Katherine. His aura changed and became much stronger. His potential had grown because of her. She would make him more powerful, beyond just his power as the king of the vampires. Abaddon was not pleased with this occurrence and knew Lucifer wouldn’t be either. The prince would need to be watched closely until Lucifer’s return to earth. Perhaps Lucifer would give him that task. Abaddon could use it to be close to Katherine. He knew just as he was drawn to Katherine, other beings, including humans, would sense her power and want to be near her. She needed powerful allies that could and would fight to the death to protect her from those who would use her or try to hurt her. Someone that would do anything for her, be anything for her. Abaddon was sure that this vampire prince would be one of those beings that would use her power for his own gain. He had to get back to Lucifer.
