She pulled blankets from the cupboard and formed a nest on the floor of the living room. The wold managed to lip over before collapsing in a heap amongst the covers. She sat down next to its body and gently strokes it’s head. The beast lifted it’s face and looked into her eyes before turning slightly and dropping it’s snout onto her lap. She leaned back against the couch to get more comfortable as the weight of the wolf’s head pressed down on her legs. She kept thinking that she should be afraid. But she felt safe and peaceful. It was a feeling of home that she hadn’t experienced since her parents died. She fell asleep while stroking it’s fur.
She awoke with a start. Her legs had gone numb and now the pins and needles were teasing her limbs. She gave a soft groan that woke the wolf, making it lift it’s head and giving her a look of disappointment. “sorry. I didn’t mean to wake you.” Wait, why am I apologising she thought as the animal gave a huff and placed it’s head on the ground next to her. She moved over a little and gave her legs a shake. When she finally could move them, she stood up and headed to the kitchen. She made herself a sandwich and put it on the table. Then grabbed 2 bowls, filling 1 with water and the other with some minced beef she had in the fridge for dinner. She took it back to the living room and placed it on the ground next to the blankets. Then went back to eat her lunch.
She puttered around the house for a while before settling on the couch with her laptop. She wrote for a while, finishing her draft before sending it to the editor for review. She stretched out her arms and felt her tensed muscles pull and released a groan. She noticed it had gotten dark outside and looked down at the wolf by her feet. “and how are you feeling?” She asked as her hand drifted down and stroked the fluffy fur. The wolf lifted it’s head and gave a few soft noises. It stood up and gave a small shake. It limped a little, but seemed to be quite alright. She lifted her brow in shock. Maybe the wound wasn’t a serious as she had initially thought? Or are wolves just fast healers? It’s massive paws came up and it came up onto the couch and licked her cheek. It’s warm, rough tongue brushing against her skin. “groan. Really?” She laughed and cradled it’s face in her hands. “what am I going to do with you? Do you want to leave? You must have a pack looking for you. Or should you stay with me for a little longer while you heal? I wish you could tell me what you want to do.” She sighed.
The wolf looked at the door, then back at her. Then, with a small howl, it dropped down and lied on the couch. “well, I guess that’s your answer for now huh? I guess we are going to be roomies big guy.”
Cam
The woman was beautiful. The moment I saw her in the woods my instincts screamed out MATE. I could smell that she was human, but I didn’t care. She was so brave as she scared of the rogue that was invading our territory. When she dressed my wound and brought me to her home, all I wanted to do was transform and hold her. But the pain in my side and the scar on her face made me hesitate. Looking around her cabin, it was clear that not only was she alone. She seemed to have a problem with people. In my wolf form, she didn’t seem to find me threatening, which I found curious. So I decided to stay like this until I could figure out how to make my move.
Max. Have you been able to track the rogue’s movements?
No Alpha. Where are you?
I found my mate.
Congratulations Alpha. Are you bringing her to the pack now?
No, she is human. And I am injured. I am planning to stay with her here for a while.
Injured? Alpha, let us bring you back to the pack healer.
Max. You are my Beta. And I have given you my orders. Just take charge for now while I try to win over my mate. She lives in the cabin on the edge of our territory. So increase patrols so we can keep her safe and also make sure the pups stay in the centre until we figure out what this rogue wants.
Alpha...
Growl.
As you command.
As she sat next to me, I breathed in her soft scent. Like caramel and apples. It was intoxicating. I placed my head in her lap and felt her brush my fur. I was conflicted. I liked her touching me, but the fact she was treating me like a pet was vexing. I could only sigh as I tried to figure out my next move. I heard her breathing even out as she fell asleep. Her warmth surrounding me and after a moment, my own tiredness overcame me and I joined her in sleep.
I was awoken when I felt her legs move. I couldn’t help the small growl that escaped. I was so comfortable lying with my mate. But when I saw her rub and shake her legs, I realised that she most likely had links and needles from being in place for so long. She went into the kitchen and came back with water and meat, then went off to eat her own lunch. With food in my belly and a good rest, I felt my strength coming back to me. The wound on my side was healing quickly and I could move around with only a slight limp.
I watched her move around the place before she grabbed her laptop and sat on the couch behind me. She started typing and her fingers flew over the keys. I was memorized. After a while, my curiosity got the best of me and I moved around to peer over and see what she was so engrossed in. I read for a while and realised she was an author. I was surprised by the vivid scenes she portrayed. I found myself drawn into the world she created. After a while I noticed her starting to move, so I quickly moved back to blankets at her feet and pretending to sleep.
She stretched and asked how I was. I made a few soft growls and chattering noises and hopped up on the couch next to her, I couldn’t resist touching her cheek. She laughed and held my face. It took so much control not to shift and pull her into my arms. She asked if I wanted to stay or go. I looked at the door, but I can’t leave. Not yet. Besides, I know my pack will be fine in the short term. I left my Beta Max with instructions. I did my best to signal that I wanted to stay and then curled up next to her on the couch. My darling mate, I am not going anywhere without you.
