Cam
As he walks out the door, he feels like someone is watching. He looks around, breathing deeply, trying to pick up a scent. All he can smell is fresh air, tree bark and the hint of his mate's sweet caramel and vibrant apple scent on his skin. He makes sure the door is locked and heads off back to the pack house.
When all is silent and still. The brown rogue hiding in the edge of the forest emerged. His teeth are revealed in a sinister grin and his eyes reveal a twisted light as he stares at the cabin. Watching. Waiting.
‘soon my pet. We will be together soon.’
Once Cam entered the pack house, Max appeared with a pile of photos and notes. He goes over what they have learnt as they walk into the office where a few other pack members are waiting.
They talked through what they had witnessed so far and the steps they had taken to guard the pack. The new security measures and border patrols.
“Previously it appeared they were looking for something. Now that it appears they have found it. They have been making plans and we are trying to figure out their next step. “ Max added.
“What were they looking for? “ Cam queried as a sense of unease comes over him. He remembers how close to his mate’s house he encountered that rogue. He had initially thought it was a coincidence. But what if it hadn’t been? His mind races. He hadn’t even known she was his mate, so it was impossible for them to have known. Was there some other reason? He tried to make himself believe that he was over thinking things. But he couldn’t help the growing sense of discomfort.
“Max, send a few guards to watch over my mate. Make sure she is safe.” He wouldn’t feel relief until he was sure he was just imagining things.
They started discussing whether they should attack now or keep an eye on them and see how things progress. Alpha. The rogues have attacked. There is no sign of the future Luna. Requesting the trackers for additional support.
Fear gripped his heart as rage burned his soul. They would pay. They would all pay.
“Let’s go. We need to find her and them. If they have hurt her.... kill them all.” His face darkens as they all head off. Shifting as they run. Calling other warriors to join them as they go.
The pack fighters divided. Half staying behind to protect the children and implementing lock down while the others followed their Alpha.
When they got to the cabin. It was dark inside. The door broken and there were signs of a struggle.
He let’s out a sharp howl of pain and rage as they all start to sniff the air. The trackers are the first to pick up her scent. As they run into the woods, Cam can smell her caramel apple scent and runs faster. His paws skid as he comes to a stop. The rest of his pack coming to a stand still behind him. There she is. She is hurt. Bleeding. Her unconscious body is on the ground, her hair matted with dirt and blood.
Next to her is the brown wolf. Behind him, some visible, some in the shadows are the rest of the rogues.
Cam let’s out a ferocious growl and transforms. The brown wolf follows suit.
“What do you want?”
“her". The man says with a sly smirk.
“why?”
“Because she's mine. She always has been. Since long before you arrived. She just got away for a little while. But I was always watching. “
“You're Jackson. “ Cam realises that he was the disgusting monster that had stalked and attacked his mate all those years ago.
“Ding ding ding. We have a winner. Let’s s what our contestant has won. Option 1 is to leave Aria with me and leave. We will be generous and let you all live a little longer. Or you can choose to fight. Where we will kill you, go kill the rest of your pack, and I still get Aria. So Alpha boy. Which option are you going to pick?” a deranged cackle erupts from his lips while the wolves behind Cam start to growl.
Cam transforms back into his wolf and starts to run forward.
“So that’s your choice. Attack.” The final word turns to a chilling howl as he starts to change.
Cam dives over Aria, pushing Jackson to the ground. They roll a few times before getting to their feet. The wolves on both side start their own ferocious battles.
Everywhere you turn, chunks of fur fly. Blood sprays and the air is filled with the sounds of battle. Claws tearing. Teeth chomping. A horrific sight to behold. The rogues were vicious, but the strength of the pack managed to keep them a little ahead. One by one the rogues began to fall. As Cam fought with Jackson, he glanced over and saw one of the rogues jump on Mac’s back. Biting deeply into his shoulder. Another burst forward and his jaws snapped around his back leg. 2 of their warriors came forward and helped defend his fallen body. Cam turned back and lunged at Jackson, his rage bursting out as he tackled his enemy to the ground. Jackson lifted his paw and swiped his claws along Cam’s side. Cam let out a mighty roar. A sound that came deep from his soul. For a second, it made Jackson freeze. That second was all that was needed for Cam to lock his jaws around Jackson's neck. Biting down hard and tossing his head from side to side. Tearing the flesh from the bone. A massive spray of arterial blood spurred out and began to quickly pool around the dying wolf. He spat out the hunk of meat and watched as Jackson transformed into his human form. He fought and let out a soft laugh. “She'll never be rid of me.” Blood oozes out his mouth as his head falls to the side. Eyes turning flat as the spark of life leaves him. As Cam turns to Sergey the c*****e, he she’s that all the rogues have fallen. They have lost 2 of their warriors in the battle and many more injured.
Send the cars and prepare the doctors. Cam alerts the wolves at home and as he changes and limps over to Aria, cradling her in his arms, they hear the squeal of tires and hear the thumping of footsteps as their friends and family arrive.
His vision goes blurry and he collapses.
Quick first aid is done to contain the bleeding on the wolves before they are bundles up into cars and moved back to the pack clinic. A few stay behind to collect the bodies of their fallen comrades and to deal will the mess and rogue remains. Soon, everything will be gone and nobody would be able to tell what happened. Mostly. The thick, metallic scent of blood stayed in the air long after the ground was cleared and the bodies gone.
I woke up with a start. “It's ok Alpha. You and everyone else are safe. We are in the clinic. Your wounds have been taken care of and everyone is receiving treatment.” “Thanks Doc". He turns his head and Max is in the bed next to him. “You ok champ?” Max let’s out a soft chuckle that quickly turns to groan of pain. “I have a fractured shoulder and a broken leg. But all in all, not bad.” He manages to croak out before falling back to sleep.
“Where's Aria? Where is my mate?” I feel frantic. Is she ok?
The Doc gives me a troubled look. “ She is next door in a private room. She is still unconscious.”
“I want to see her. NOW.”
The Doc pulls up a wheelchair and helps me in it. He then hands me my drip before pushing me to her bedside. She is so pale. So still. As I reach over and grab her hand, I stare at the Doctor. I don’t k what to say. All the words feel wrong and frightening.
“She has minor injuries. The wound on her head is superficial. However.... right now, she appears to be in a coma. I assume it’s her mind trying to process the trauma and protect itself. We are just going to have to wait. She could wake up tomorrow or a month from now. It’s up to her. We can keep her comfortable. Monitor her for now. How about I leave you alone for a while?” I turn back to my mate as she walks out the door. I can’t h feeling angry at her. I know she is a good Doctor. And that she is doing her best. But I can’t help resenting her for her inability to awaken my mate. After a calming breaths, I return to reality and just watch over Aria.
Aria
The Wolf stares at me with menacing eyes. As its starts to walk forward, I see others come up behind him. I take a few steps back, trying to figure out what I should do. Can I run? Can I fight? As I try to plan my next course of action, the wolf slowly starts to change. As his wolf feature retract, a familiar face is revealed. My stomach lurches and I feel sick. Tears pool in my eyes and stream down my cheeks. “Jackson.”
“Did you miss me? I missed you.” His voice sends shivers down my spine. Memories of him tormenting me flash through my mind and a scream of terror bubbles in the back of my throat. He starts walking towards and I cant stop shaking. Finally he is in front me standing there. He grabs my arms in a vice like grip. My muscles ache in protest. I try to struggle free but he has me trapped. He is so strong. I lift my leg and kick him. He grunts as my knee makes contact with his leg. He shoves me hard to the side and my head hits the side table. I feel the skin split and my eye sting as blood drips down my face. Everything is blurry and spinning. His crazed grin is the last thing I see before everything turns to black.
