Lizzy I woke up to the face of someone hovering over me. I couldn't see as my eyes tried to adjust from my sleep deprived state, but judging by the lack of sunbeams streaming in through the window, it was still early. The figure that seemed to be hovering over me looked familiar though, so I mustered a yawn and opened my mouth. “What time is it,” I slurred in a raspy voice. “Hello to you, too, Lizzy.” The masculine voice I didn't expect sounded strangely familiar. I still couldn't see who it was. “Who are you?” “You don't have to worry about that” He replied with a snicker at my question and placed his hands on my chest to push me back down. “No, where is Maggie?” “You mean the old slut? She left. She also left your things behind. You have nowhere to go,” He said and chuckled again. It was at this point that the beast inside of me stirred, and the place suddenly felt hot. My body was covered in sweat and I could feel every muscle twitching involuntarily under my skin. He was staring at me with eyes that seemed too familiar. “That's not true,” I denied, even though I knew it was the truth. “You know it's not.” The way he said those words made it easy for me to recognize him. “You were the man from the party.” My eyes widened in realization. That was not the only thing that happened. It seemed like that realization did something to my beast as it bounced inside of me, pulling me towards this man. I had no idea what my beast was doing, but the desire to touch him was overwhelming. As he leaned towards me, I noticed how his eyes glowed in a dark amber color, like molten lava. It wasn't just a look; he was burning with an intensity unlike any other, and if I hadn't been sitting on the bed, I probably would've collapsed from its sheer intensity. He closed the gap between us in one swift motion, grabbed my face with his hand. “Yours,” I heard my beast say to me. I was unable to do anything else as a jolt went through every cell in my body, sending shocks through my brain causing my thoughts to go hazy. “You feel it, don't you?” His voice was rough, almost like he'd never spoken before. I nodded slowly in reply. There was a tugging sensation in my stomach, and I felt my body swaying uncontrollably as a new energy surged through me. The force pulled on my chest as I attempted to pull my arms around his shoulders. I could barely move, but I didn't care. Stop it, Lizzy, what was wrong with you! I chide myself. “We should leave.” He pulled away from me and stood up off the bed, looking back to make sure I was following. “Huh? We? Where?” What exactly did he mean? “Yes, Lizzy, we. And where? To a place where you can find more of our kind.” A mischievous grin spread across his lips. “How...do you know my name? What kind?” I asked. The smile fell from his face. “Lizzy…” He started, but he stopped after seeing my expression. “I know who you are.” I didn't like the sound of that. “I'll show you,” He continued I had a feeling I knew where he was going with this, but at the same time, I had to be sure. “What do you mean? I have no idea what you are talking about. I shook my head in denial. He smirked at me, the smirk sent shivers down my body. “You are not human and you know it. We werewolves have the ability to recognize ourselves, and that's what had happened earlier. You affirmed to feeling it. You are fated to me, I am your mate.” There it was again, the strange tingling sensation I'd experienced when I first met him. “Stop it!” I covered my ears with my hands . This man's words were scaring me more than they ought to and yet my mind insisted on thinking about them anyway. “Let me show you the truth of the matter, Lizzy. Aren't you tired of wondering where you belong? Or think about why you don't fit it? Are you not tired of hiding the real you, all because you fear people will reject you?” The last sentence was spat out with what I imagined as disgust. “Look around, Lizzy, you're not alone anymore.” I didn't dare take my hands off my ears, scared the words might come true. “Won't Maggie find out I'm gone? Won't others notice?” “They don't care about you,” He said with conviction. “They're afraid of you.” That statement sent another bolt of fear through my heart. Wasn't I afraid of myself? Fear of my beast had been with me ever since I was a teenager. Every moment, every night, was filled with anxiety and uncertainty as to whether or not it would break free and kill me. “There will be no Sam,” He quickly added, and it scared me. How did he know that? “How do you know about that?” It came out more accusatory than I meant, but I could sense there were answers somewhere here, hidden in plain sight. He paused. “Let's just say I ran a background check on you” I saw a hint of embarrassment flash across his face and his eyes darted around, avoiding making eye contact. “What?” I exclaimed. “Listen to me, please,” I could hear the desperation in his voice. “You need to come back with me, and you are free to leave if you don't like it.” I don't know if it was the way he said it or it was because I've always wanted to hear those words, but I followed him out of the hospital without much hesitation. He led me across the parking lot and to a black car, which looked oddly normal, considering everything that just happened in the room. I got into the passenger seat as the door shut firmly in my face. It smelled faintly of wood and leather and felt extremely comfortable to the touch. But soon he chanted some words, and a portal opened in front of us.
