“What are you doing here?” Luckily, it wasn't Edwin like I feared.
It was a guard and he looked at me like he was looking at dirt on his shoes. It would've made me feel worse if not for the fact that I felt a bit relieved about who had caught me.
“I… uhm…I was trying to find the room- the guest room” I lied.
The screaming had ceased.
He looked at me suspiciously before saying something in response to someone on the other side of the hallway. He turned back to me once more.
“Come with me” he said before turning and walking away without even waiting for my reply. I sighed before following him down the stairs until we were standing in front of the room I was once in.
“Get in” he barked, pointing inside the room.
I did without any complaint and he slammed the door behind me, locking it with an audible thud.
The noise reverberated around the small space as I tried to make myself comfortable. A weird feeling of heat rising from my chest spread through my body. I tried to calm my nerves by taking in slow breaths. It didn't seem to work until I pulled my clothes off in one go and put them on the floor next to me. There was no way out for me if I wanted to be comfortable.
I fell on the bed, trying to convince myself that this was a nightmare I needed to escape from. My thoughts were interrupted by the sound of footsteps making their way to the room. The steps got closer and closer to my side of the bed till they stopped and then it slowly crept towards me until I heard a heavy thud
I waited, but nothing.
I had probably imagined it, nothing crept toward me, I didn't hear another thud but the footsteps around my door were there.
“Elizabeth?” I heard his voice, and relief washed over me, was my wolf messing with my emotions?
At least it wasn't an unfamiliar monster.
I opened the door and came face to face with him. It was only when he moved into the room that I saw a maid was behind him but his large frame had concealed her.
Dropping off whatever she was carrying in that tray, she eyed me before hurrying out of the room. It was only then I came to the realization that I had stripped off my clothes and was wrapped In sheets.
My face burned.
I looked up at Edwin to see if he was staring at me inappropriately but he was looking everywhere in the room except at me and when he finally looked at me, his eyes didn't roam.
I hurried away into the bathroom and came back fully dressed.
“I am sorry about that, I forgot” I explained even though there was no needed for that.
We were silent for a while and he just kept staring at me, not breaking eye contact until I broke first and looked at the floor. Why was he here? How couldn't call me names one minus and appeared the second minute to stare at me in that way that made my skin crawl.
“You should eat” he turned to leave.
“I am not hungry” I responded after him. “I want to go back”
He gave me a look that said “Not again”
There were so many things bothering me that I couldn't focus on food. Eating was the least of my problems.
His gaze was hard and cold but he spoke calmly, “I was hoping you’d say that, that is why I asked the maid to bring it to you. Since you are too stubborn, hopefully you'll stop throwing a fit when I feed you”
My eyes widen in horror. “You can't force me to eat! Or stay here or do whatever I don't want!”
His eyebrows narrowed, “and what makes you think that?” he questioned as if I was an insolent child, but my mouth wouldn't cooperate, I just stood there gaping.
“If you don't start acting like a lady I won't take it kindly with you “ He threatened me. His tone and expression told me not to push him too far.
I tried desperately to get my mouth working again. He was trying to poison me? But why? Was he that ruthless and cold?
“Did you poison it” I finally asked.
He snickered. My groaned inwardly at my question.
“No I did not poison it, I am just very convincing you know, I'm also very persuasive, if I really wanted to I would have poisoned it anyway” he smiled wickedly at me.
I was beyond shocked
He looked at me again, “You're really stupid aren't ya?”
I couldn't tell whether his remark was meant to be kind or mean but my blood ran cold at his words and all the memories replayed in my head like a film reel. His words reminded me of one of Sam’s endless insults. My face must have given it away because he looked away this time.
Not wanting it to get weirder, I grabbed the plate and scoped a generous amount into my mouth. It was weird having him watch me while I ate but he seemed satisfied that I did it anyway and when I was done, I handed him back the plate and the empty glass too.
“See it wasn't that hard” I rolled my eyes at his comment.
I was surprised he took the tray. Who was this man? He was like an open book that was closed. One moment he seemed nice and gentle, the next moment he seemed like the most cruel person on earth. He had no shame and I found that terrifying.
Just when he turned to leave, he stopped in his tracks.
“My father will send for you tonight”
