 By the time Augustus finally returned from Spain, it had already been five weeks since the wedding. How a single trip could be delayed for so long was lost on Julia, until she was informed that he had fallen sick and had to rest at a city to be treated just before the last leg of the journey. And while she was still furious at him for forcing her into a marriage of political convenience, she also had to accept that that was just how the times were. Not that she was any more inclined to forgive him (men still had to be held accountable for their abuse of power no matter what era or the customs of the time), but she did know that his love and concern was genuine. Or as genuine as they could be, coming from a man who would always put nation before family. She respected that too, though. G
