AFTER Avery left the soup to simmer, she walked outside and joined Alex and Jamie, picking up one of the books to study. She was good at Bio, but that didn’t mean she didn’t have to study. “I just can’t remember this!” Alex said, his lips in a thin line. Avery looked up. “What?” She and Jamie said in unison. Alex pointed at the pages of all the different types of neurons, and Avery exchanged a long look with Jamie. “Try making flash cards,” Jamie suggested. “That helped with the cells, remember?” “Yeah.” Alex groaned, his head dropping back. “I’m so tired. My brain is being fried.” Jamie laughed, rolling his eyes a bit. Then he looked at Avery. “Let’s take a break. You don’t have anything to do, right?” Avery shook her head. “The soup is supposed to simmer for like half an hour.” A
