AVERY didn’t know how long she sat there. Long enough that her eyes were sticky with tears and sleep.
She couldn’t sleep, though.
She’d heard a few shouts, in the beginning—and then none. Like Jamie was trying to keep them in, so she couldn’t hear. Or like he was unconscious.
She just sat there, back against the wall, letting tears spill.
She’d tried to break out. She had. But the twins had been ready, Jace had had a key. He’d locked the door as soon as he’d shoved her in. She was pretty sure her hip was bruised from the force of the fall. She really didn’t care.
