THEY both looked up in unison, Avery putting a hand under Jamie’s shirt immediately. They’d kept the first-aid kit open, right next to them, for this inevitable possibility. The twins looked like they were torn between anger that both of them had gotten free time, and glee at their no doubt impending punishment. Jayden settled on anger. “You two really are idiots. You stayed here the entire time.” His eyes flicked from Avery to Jamie. “You really haven’t learned anything, have you?” Avery stood up immediately. “Don’t do anything to him.” Jayden raised an eyebrow coolly. “And why not?” “He’s still hurt!” Avery said, gesturing at Jamie’s midsection. “He’ll land in the hospital like this!” She knew there was no point relying on the twins’ sense of morality now.
