AVERY gasped.
Jamie looked like he’d been slapped.
The twins scoffed before turning and going back to their own rooms.
A heavy silence hung over the three of them standing there.
Alex broke it first. “Well, I’m going to go home. Thanks for helping me today,” he said, looking at Jamie. “I’ll come by same time tomorrow?”
Jamie nodded.
Alex smiled and waved at her before letting himself out.
Only after the door shut did Avery cross the room to stand right before Jamie. “You okay?”
Jamie flinched, shaking his head slightly. “Yeah. Just—they caught me off guard. I’m fine.” His pale skin said otherwise, but Avery let it go.
“You should go up. I’ll get back to work.”
Jamie nodded, and gave her a weak smile before rushing back upstairs to his own room.
