Amelia's Pov
My hands fidgety, my heart pounding, I ran away from the pack.
How could my life tear apart within the twinkle of an eye?
My half-sister betrayed our trust.
The rejection from my own mate and the false accusation which was laid on me.
I found it difficult to bear all of it.
They were just so overwhelming.
The loud chirps of birds and the rustling of dried leaves could be heard as I ran further in the forest, my feet throbbing against the earth.
A lot of thoughts swirled in my mind which prompted me to run further. I needed to escape from the pack which was lurking in danger. I could no longer bear it.
I had no idea of where I was running to, but I knew I had to run.
Trees and shrubs blinded my vision, but I raced further as my heart welled in tears.
As I raced on, I began panting heavily as my breath deteriorated.I struggled hard to gasp for breath, then I decided to settle under a sycamore tree.
Using its branches as a refuge over my head, I thought of the best move I would take.
“Even in my wildest imagination, I would never have believed that Sophia could set me up just to make me lose my position as the Luna”
“ How could I ever believe that I would be falsely accused of stealing the Alpha's precious bracelet, an act I knew nothing of?”
“ But who would have set me up by putting the Alpha's bracelet in my bag?”
“ My father?”
“Stepmom or Sophia?”
As different thoughts overwhelmed my head, I gave in to sleep almost immediately.
I heard loud footsteps from afar which made me wake up immediately.
“It must be the palace guards, we have to leave here” my wolf whispered into my ears.
“Leave here but head to where exactly?” I mumbled under my breath.
“Do you have any suggestions?” I whispered to Lynda, my wolf.
She has always been my special adviser in difficult situations like this.
I heard loud noises as she growled in discomfort.
“It seems I have an idea” she said, and my face lightened with excitement.
“Remember your Mom’s best friend always wanted you around".
"How about you seek refuge there?” My wolf suggested.
"Wow, that is such a great idea. I have always trusted her to come up with excellent suggestions in times like this”.
Wearing a smile on my face, I made my way to the human world where she resided.
I twirled my head around as I heard the loud groaning of someone.
“Was any other person also present in the woods at that time?”
I turned my head as I tried searching for the direction of the person and there he was, staring at me as well.
“Please.. Help!” he wailed in pain. I looked down at him and I noticed the bruises and wounds he had sustained on his body, each of them oozing with blood.
I stood transfixed at one spot as I contemplated whether to help him or not. He could possibly be a terrorist and might land me in more danger.
I pressed my temple with the tip of my thumb as I turned my back to leave, but his voice called me back.
“Please, don't leave me…” he begged.
He was obviously in pain.
“Are you okay?”
“Why are you here?” I moved closer to him but while struggling to give him answers, I watched as his heart dropped at each passing second.
“Can you talk to me?” I tried alerting him, but his body was almost getting stiff.
I laid down beside him and with the last strength in me, I blew some air into his mouth.
And as his energy increased, mine decreased and the last thing I remembered before blacking out was watching him stand up to his feet and the fact that I was able to save someone before my death made my heart glitter with joy.
******
I woke up with a banging headache only to find out that the man I had saved last night was nowhere to be found.
Then where was he?
Prying my eyes around the trees and shrubs, I prayed so hard that I could at least find him.
“Looking for me?” I heard a voice behind me.
I turned my eyes around to see him completely healthy, his red-dyed long hair which ran down to his shoulders accentuated with his chiseled profile.
“Where have you been?” I questioned, walking up to him.
“Went to get us some food” he brought out some pieces of dried meat and water and handed it over to me, pulling me slightly on the cheeks.
“Were they really necessary?” I pouted as I weighed the meat with my eyes.
“It is obvious you are not hungry”
He grabbed the meat from my hands and started to devour it before me.
The aroma and hot lines of smoke which escaped the meat made me realize that I was hungrier than I had ever thought.
“You drained the last energy I had in me last night, so I deserve food” I started and he turned to me with a smile.
“For curiosity's sake, why were you all alone in this thick dark forest last night?” I questioned but his response was just a chuckle.
“I think I should be asking you that?”
“You are a she-wolf, and you ought to be protected, not wandering alone in the woods, looking for almost dead wolves to save their lives” he teased as he continued to devour the meat with his two hands, totally oblivious of how hurtful I found his last phrases.
“I think I should never have helped you or what do you think?” I questioned, he rolled his eyebrows and nodded his head to my questions.
Silence enveloped the atmosphere which was only broken by the loud chirping of birds and the croaking of frogs.
“Do you have a mate?” He broke the silence which weighed the atmosphere.
I let out a stifle chuckle at his questions as I thought of the most accurate answers his questions deserved.
“Seems I never had a mate” I ended up muttering under my breath.
As though he had noticed the change of my countenance, he released the heavy gaze on me and returned it to the food we were both eating.
“Who are you?” I asked him and for a while,we both stayed silent, staring at each other's face
