Chapter 3: Meeting

1002 Words
"Liam, Maxwell is different from us. He likes women, not men. Forcing Ethan on him will only hurt Ethan. Are you sure this is the right thing to do?" Sitting on the private jet bound for Switzerland, Drake was worried about Maxwell, who remained in London. "Why not?" Liam took the drink Drake handed him, giving him a quick kiss on the lips, almost earning himself a punch. "So harsh! Am I really that bad?" Drake couldn’t be bothered with his teasing. With a serious expression on his handsome face, Liam asked, "How do you know Maxwell doesn’t like men?" "I’ve never seen Maxwell show interest in a man." "Has he ever shown interest in a womanWe’ve known him for years, and all the women around him are just s****l partners. He’s never mentioned any woman with real affection." Drake frowned. "I still think you shouldn’t do this." "Don’t worry, I’m confident." Liam was well aware that Maxwell didn’t focus on men, but he also didn’t focus on women. Liam understood that Maxwell simply hadn’t met someone who could make him feel anything. Ethan would be the one to stir something in Maxwell. Liam’s gut feeling was strong. He was confident in his belief that Ethan existed for Maxwell—they were perfectly suited for each other. "Let’s assume Maxwell does fall for Ethan, but what we don’t understand is why you treat Ethan so differently? So well, in fact, that even after all these years of being your brothers, we still feel like you treat Ethan with special care." Essentially, Liam was a cold person. No one had expected that two years ago, he would pick up a "broken" boy and bring him home, take care of him, and now, even help him win Maxwell’s heart, It was all very strange. Hearing these words, a hint of sadness crossed Liam’s face. "Do you remember when I told you about my past?" "Of course, I remember." Like Ethan, Liam had also grown up in an orphanage. But the one Liam had lived in as a child was not a good place. There was never enough to eat, and the dean and caretakers would beat the children whenever they pleased. One night, a group of our decided to escape. It had started snowing at dusk, and we seized the opportunity when the dean and caretakers weren’t paying attention. The harsh weather made it seem unlikely that anyone would try to escape, so security was lax. I was only 7 years old at the time. That night, we didn't dare to stop and rest, for fear that we would be beaten if we were caught. Eventually, we got lost and didn't know how to find the city. In winter, there is no food in the forests and rivers. Many children my age froze to death, became ill or were separated. I just got lucky. There was a boy six years older than me who took care of me all the time. He even gave me hazelnuts or rose hips that he had a hard time finding to eat, and more often than not snow or tree bark. By the time my adoptive father found me, I was almost unconscious. He later told me that the boy was holding me to death, protecting me from the wind and rain and snow. I'll never forget that face, and I'll never forget his name. He's like my brother. Liam paused, lost in the memory. "Ethan looks just like him. Exactly like him. Not just in appearance, but in personality too, even down to his name." "You think Ethan is him?" Liam shook his head. "I don’t think. Ethan is him. The moment I saw Ethan for the first time, I knew it was him. Otherwise, I wouldn’t have felt such a strong sense of familiarity." "Ethan is only 22. If that boy were still alive, he’d be around 35 or 36 now." Liam smiled. "After meeting Ethan, I had someone investigate his past. Shortly after that boy died, Ethan was born. And the day the orphanage found Ethan was exactly one year to the day after that boy’s death." Drake raised an eyebrow, understanding what Liam was implying. "You believe in reincarnation?" "Seeing Ethan, I have no choice but to believe." As he spoke, Liam pulled out an old, worn photo from his time in the orphanage and handed it to Drake. In the yellowing photograph, Drake immediately saw someone who looked exactly like Ethan, as if they had been carved from the same mold. Even the expression was identical. It wasn’t just a resemblance—it was as if it was the same person. "He was British, and his name was Ethan too. Now, you know why I'm helping Ethan in this way, the first time I met Ethan, it was a familiar feeling, really, I don't know how to describe it. I knew you when I grew up, and I took over my father's business and started a company with you, you know. Once I helped my stepfather to investigate his enemy Raven Company, I found the illegal source of funds for one of the shell companies, and I have been investigating him, and after being shocked, I investigated him, and then I went to him, and he... The environment was terrible for him at the time, so I brought him straight back.." Drake said, "I remember, no wonder you took him back and quickly joined forces with Willian to take over the forces in that district, I wonder why you suddenly and actively eradicate dissidents!" You didn't tell us about it, we just knew that you took Ethan to the hospital, and we didn't see him until a year later." Liam smiled, leaned closer to Drake, and whispered, "You know, I think Maxwell and Ethan complement each other, just like me and you." Drake glared at him and replied coldly, "Less, I'm not that interested in being with you." Liam smile”haha~”
