CHAPTER ONE

"Raine, get down this instant. It's almost dark and we haven't bought tonight's groceries yet." I can hear my mom yelling at me from the bottom of the stairs. I put on my black baggy hood before heading out of my bedroom. I can see my mom grabbing the keys to her car and walks over to the garage. True to  her word, the sun is setting. It's hard to see humans walking around when the sun sets because that's the time the vampires are out to play. Sometimes I can't stop the fear of what will happen if at some point they get to capture my family. My father died when I was still a little girl. My mother doesn't tell me why he died but I have my suspicion that he was killed by a vampire. Living with vampires have been my worst nightmare ever. My mom tells me that long time ago they didn't hear much about them but as years went by and their numbers increased, they decided it was time to come out of hiding lead by none other than Elias the first vampire king to ever rule. They slaughtered anything that tried to stop them from getting what they want. It's easier to co-exist with them since they are creatures of the night. At least that's what I tell myself. It is said that if a vampire is exposed to sun rays, he or she withers immediately. The humans gets to rule during the day but once the sun sets, the vampires come out to play. But there are days that we humans get to stay indoors be it night or day. These days are during the winters since there's no sun, they can roam the place as long as they want. I hate them and at times I wish I have some kind of super powers to bring an ending to their race. Through the time they've learned how to change a human to be a vampire and I guess that's how they get their race to increase in such a huge number. Only a purebred vampire gets to turn a human since every being in them is purely vampiric. Purebred vampires are born after the consummation of two vampires hence carrying both their genes. They are said to be more powerful than the turned vampires. They are few in existence because the pregnancy of a purebred is deadly to both the mother and the unborn for they harbor lots of strength. My mother made sure she let me on all this. She believes that when I know about just how the vampire world runs, I'll try to be more careful yet all I can think about is how I can get to rid them from the face of the earth.
