Chapter 58: Mixed Emotions

"What the devil are you trying to accomplish?"

The hand that was holding Scarlet's was violently yanked away by another hand. The reprimand was delivered not long after, and the anger was palpable in the tone of the speaker's voice; the person who raised their voice must have been extremely irate to be able to say what they had to say aloud.

Ellie clenched her teeth and scrunched up her red lips in annoyance. She rolled her eyes while fiercely staring at Scarlet; her gaze was as piercing as a snake's, which demonstrates its dominance when confronting adversaries.

Scarlet looked at her hand, which continued to hurt despite her best efforts. She couldn't help but raise her eyebrows, grin, and mock Ellie's appearance as she looked at her. Scarlet had anticipated that Ellie would become more composed after everything that had taken place, but Ellie did not. This came as a huge letdown to Scarlet.

Scarlet asked, "Why are you acting like such an angry person? I didn't do anything to you, did I?"

Ellie grabbed Hades' hand, squeezing it. She did so on purpose in front of Scarlet and uttered a warning as she brought both of their hands up to their shoulders.

She said, "Scarlet, Hades, and I are just a couple, and you and he only have a hazy relationship on paper. Because of this, I would like to request that you refrain from approaching my boyfriend in the future because it will cause me to feel very upset and angry."

Scarlet couldn't help but let out an infectious chuckle. She shrugged and then purposefully allowed the shirt that Hades had put on her to fall off the ground.

Scarlet was the focus of Hades' attention as he frowned slightly and stared at her as if he were wondering why she was acting the way she was.

Scarlet: "Hades, I foresaw Ellie's behavior, and I told you to expect it as well. You persist in looking for reasons not to believe what I have just stated. You see, I'm not wrong; your woman is unable to accept the fact that there is interest between us."

Hades heaved a sigh and continued, "Ellie is not the kind of person who would do that. Simply put, she is misinterpreting what you are doing. Scarlet, you ought to avoid playing the calculating game with her."

Ellie: "Hades… I don't…"

Ellie was about to say something, but Hades cut her off with an angry expression. Suddenly, he reached out and grabbed her shoulder, pulling his hand away from the one that was in hers.

Ellie was left in shambles, unable to comprehend the callous behavior of Hades.

Hades: "Ellie, you should restrain yourself. The relationship that the two of us share may be put in serious jeopardy as a direct result of the rash choices that you make. If a member of my family learns about our relationship, I have no idea how things will develop."

Ellie's eyes filled up with tears. Her beautiful eyes shone through a layer of clear water as a veil while her lovely face drooped ever-so-slightly. The soft body was trembling very slightly, giving the impression that it was working very hard to maintain its composure to modify its mood for the benefit of its master.

The sight of Ellie's unadulterated tears brought Hades to his knees. His heart is like a garden, and Ellie is like a delicate flower that blooms there. Even at this late stage, Hades has the impression that he does not deserve the profound love that Ellie has for him. This is because he was already developing feelings for Scarlet.

Ellie mumbled in a low voice, "You... do not love me anymore. Even now, you avoid physical contact with me and insist that I should go deeper into the shadows."

Hades quickly encircled Ellie in his arms, pulled her into his lap, and heaved a sigh as he did so. He supported his chin on her head while he pressed his body against hers, squeezing her delicate frame against her robust chest. In that split second, both of their hearts began to beat at the same time.

It seemed as though someone else had taken over his body because he had lost his voice. Hades said: "Ellie, don't get me wrong. The only thing I'm doing with my actions right now is trying to keep our relationship strong. Because our relationship is the thing I value the most, it causes me a great deal of anguish whenever you speak negatively about it."

Ellie sobbed weakly in Hades' lap. Even though he was actively hugging her, she continued to refuse to reach out to him and answer. Her two small hands were tightly clasped together, and they were hanging down.

Ellie's abandonment made Hade panic even more. He had the impression that the words he had just spoken were completely unable to penetrate the woman's emotional barrier that he was currently holding.

Scarlet made a face as she observed the overly intimate behavior of these two people, and then she burst out laughing. She still has thousands of tasks to complete; she must be crazy to be standing here watching them enjoy each other's company.

Scarlet said, "It makes no difference to me what the two of you want to say or do. There is no reason for me to care about either of you. Hades, the situation we're in today still calls for cautious attention to detail. I will get in touch with you at a later time."

She didn't even wait for Hades to call back after she said that; instead, she just turned and walked away.

Hades couldn't help but let out a quiet sigh as he observed Scarlet's solitary yet formidable figure. If only Ellie had possessed even a fraction of Scarlet's resilience and self-reliance, then everything would have been much simpler to deal with. Ellie is, without a doubt, the woman he loves more than any other, but the fact that he is obligated to look after and console her at all times makes Hades feel miserable.
