Chapter 2
Audie took a few steps back, and she lowered her head. While nodding with a blank stare.
“Yes, everything you said is true. Even though I know everything. Then, what will change from everything?”
She then laughed blandly.
But behind that laughter, her tears also fell.
“Do you know… rumors have been circulating, saying that I use my money to support a mistress. That's the reason I look so stupid in front of all of them.”
“I hate all of this!”
“I hate it when I am helpless and even have to swallow all those rumors with a smile.”
“I want to sew up their mouths that always bother my ears! I hate everything. When they laugh because they belittle me!”
She then crouched down, hiding her face and crying her heart out.
Audie was so strong, until today she could no longer hold it all back. She was fragile.
In front of Aiden, she cried without caring about anything.
Seeing that, Aiden felt so guilty. Did his words hurt Audie's heart that much? This was the first time in three years that he had seen her so fragile.
'I really don't deserve to be Audie's husband. You're so useless, Aiden! You should have died on the battlefield back then. That would have been better,' Aiden thought.
He approached with his wheelchair. called Audie and rubbed her head gently.
“My wife… sorry…" Audie immediately rejected him and stood up.
“A man who only depends on me will never be worthy of being my husband.” Her voice was so loud and hoarse.
“The one who deserves to be my husband is someone who can protect me. someone i can rely on.” Audie was so angry. That gaze was so sharp.
“You should realize, Aiden. You don't deserve, even, to call me your wife! You're just a coward who can only use me. You take advantage of my pity for you.”
“Your crippled leg, is an advantage that you use to blackmail me. Isn't that right?”
Hearing that, Aiden became so angry.
“Stop Audie! You've gone too far!” The hand clenched.
“Why? Do you feel insulted now? Then… let's get a divorce!”
Then Audie took out a necklace that she had kept for a long time.
Lifting it in front of Aiden.
“Look! This necklace is a sign of ownership of my heart. I love someone who has been a savior for me. Who was even willing to give their lives to protect me? I love him! And I will never be able to love you. Are all these reasons enough to make us divorce?”
Aiden was immediately silent. Seeing the necklace in front of him, he became so surprised.
It was his. A silver necklace with jade gems was given by his mother.
But he didn't remember at all. Who was the girl he saved? And when did he lose the necklace? He only knew that the necklace was his lucky necklace, and Audie now had it. Even fate brought them together.
“I saved you,” Aiden muttered.
That made his heart a little warm.
Before Audie could protest and say something. Aiden bravely grabbed Audie's hand. Directing her to hold the necklace even tighter.
“Keep loving the owner of this necklace! He who in the past deserved your love!"
Hearing Aiden's words, Audie's heartfelt sore. She now softened a little.
Seeing that, Aiden felt like hugging and calming her down.
But when he tried to hug Audie. He fell from his wheelchair. Instantly, his head hit the floor tiles, and fresh blood immediately flowed down his temple, but he kept trying to go to Audie, who now looked even more disgusted.
“Stop Aiden! Stop being stupid! Everything you do is in vain. You will never be able to!”
With Aiden still on the floor. Audie immediately took out a check for one million dollars and threw it at Aiden.
“Take this one million dollar check and go wherever you want, don't ever come back to me!"
Audie, without giving any help. She immediately left with tears that Aiden didn't know, flowing so heavily.
That one million dollars was the last money she had. A family tradition, where those who were adults got an initial capital of ten million dollars to build their business.
Although Audie built her company into a billion-dollar company for five years, the company had now been swallowed up by her grandmother's scheme, which transferred the company to her younger brother. This last million marked the end of her and Aiden.
Aiden kept trying to get up as Audie's steps got further away from him. He was so angry with himself for being so useless. By clenching his fists. He tried to get up with all the energy he had.
And now he realized one thing, it felt like he was starting to feel a sensation that was gradually returning to his legs.
He shouted at Audie who was getting further away from him.
“Wait one more day! Give me a chance, just one day, my wife!” Finally, Audie disappeared from his sight.
Without Aiden realizing it, Audie heard all his words.
But with a heavy heart, she still decided to leave because she had faced defeat in the family conflict. Being with Aiden would only make them both face shame and bad treatment from the family. She would not involve Aiden in her family's bad treatment.
Aiden, then, tried again… A little more, he would get his life back. It felt like his feet were now starting to warm up, the stinging sensation a few moments ago, due to the hot spill and the wound from being hit by shards when he fell. Now he started to feel it. Knowing that. He could only smile. The stinging sensation didn't even mean anything to him. The rehabilitation he had been undergoing so far had now given results.
“Wait for me a little more, Audie.”
But when he was still helpless. The woman with her fashionable appearance was now in front of him.
Standing in the room while looking at him. Her aura looked strong. By looking at her silhouette. Aiden immediately knew who she was.
“What have you done to Audie. Why did she just leave like that? Can't you even comfort her!
You're useless!”
The woman stepped closer to Aiden? And stepped on Aiden's hand that was still on the floor. But Aiden didn't make a single sound. Only a sharp glare full of anger, that's all he gave,
“All of this is your fault. You are so useless and helpless, that she has to face all of that.
If only you were a man with full power, maybe, all the family members would submit to you, and Audie would like that.”
The woman rushed to leave, but Aiden's words stopped her in her tracks.
"You are a bad mother to Audie. I am bad for not being able to protect her; however, you are even worse. You don't deserve to be her mother. You are so unworthy!"
"I will make sure, with my hands, I will protect Audie and no one will be able to stop me!”
Immediately the old woman turned around, but at that moment she was so shocked…
