Chapter 5: Unanswered Questions
Ember's POV
Theodore led me to the center of the clearing. The pack was gathered around a roaring fire, their faces lit up by the flickering flames. Theodore gestured to a figure standing at the edge of the group.
"This is Lena," he said, his voice low and smooth. "She's our pack's healer."
Lena's eyes narrowed as she took in my appearance. "So, you're the one who's been causing all the commotion," she said, her voice dripping with skepticism.
I felt a flush rise to my cheeks. "I didn't mean to cause any trouble," I said, trying to sound contrite.
Lena's expression softened slightly. "I'm sure you didn't," she said. "But you need to understand that we're not just a group of people who happen to turn into wolves. We're a family, bound together by our shared experiences and our loyalty to each other."
As Lena spoke, I couldn't help but wonder why Theodore was introducing me to her. Was this some kind of test? Or was he trying to tell me something? Does she have the answers I'm seeking?
I glanced over at Theodore, but his expression was unreadable. What was he thinking? And why was he being so secretive?
As the night wore on, I found myself growing more and more frustrated. I had so many questions, but no one seemed willing to give me any answers.
What was going on with my body? Why was I experiencing these strange sensations and visions?
And what did Theodore want from me?
As I stood there, feeling like an outsider among the pack, I realized that I had a choice to make. I could continue to wait for answers, hoping that someone would eventually come forward and explain everything to me.
Or I could take matters into my own hands.
I glanced over at Theodore, my eyes locking onto his. I was going to get some answers, one way or another.
The fire crackled and spat, casting flickering shadows across the clearing. The pack seemed to be waiting for something, their eyes fixed on me with a mixture of curiosity and suspicion.
I took a deep breath, feeling a sense of determination rise up inside me. I was ready to face whatever lay ahead, no matter how scary or uncertain it might be.
As I stood there, I noticed a figure standing at the edge of the clearing. He was tall and lean, with piercing blue eyes that seemed to bore into my soul. There was something about him that seemed familiar, yet I couldn't quite place him.
"Who's that?" I asked Theodore, nodding towards the stranger.
Theodore's expression turned guarded. "That's Kael," he said. "He's one of our pack members."
I raised an eyebrow. "He looks... intense."
Theodore's eyes flicked towards Kael, and for a moment, I thought I saw a flash of warning in his gaze. But then, his expression smoothed out, and he turned back to me.
"Don't mind Kael," he said. "He's just a bit... passionate about the pack."
I nodded, but I couldn't shake the feeling that there was more to Kael's story than Theodore was letting on.
As the night wore on, I found myself growing more and more uneasy. There were so many secrets and tensions simmering just below the surface, and I couldn't help but wonder what would happen when they finally boiled over.
