Chapter 4 Alessia knew she had been caught red-handed, but she didn't flinch. She turned to the raging woman and smiled innocently. "What do you mean by you saw a fake alert?" she asked, trying to sound puzzled. The woman snorted in disgust. "Don't think you can fool me with that pretentious smile. I know girls like you very well. You rent a dress, shoe, and handbag from me, yet you lied about paying half of the money. I will not let you go today." Alessia gasped and acted shocked, rubbing her brow and frowning. "Was that a fake alert? Oh my goodness, I didn't know. Please forgive me. That means something is wrong with my E-banking." The woman folded her arms, her expression unyielding. "Stop lying and pay my money now." Alessia scratched the back of her neck, thinking of an escape strategy. She coughed lightly to hide her smile as she developed a plan. "How much do you say I owe you?" she asked, trying to sound innocent. The woman looked at her, wondering if Alessia was really going to pay. "$500," she replied, her eyes narrowing. Alessia's eyes widened in shock, but she knew it was all an act. They had agreed on $300, and the woman was trying to cheat her. Alessia rummaged through her jeans pocket, pretending to look for money. Suddenly, she shouted, "Snake, snake, snake!" The woman, thinking there was a snake, ran away into her shop, while Alessia took advantage of the distraction to make a run for it. As she ran, she laughed to herself, thinking she had outsmarted the woman. When she arrived at her friend's apartment, she burst into laughter, holding her stomach. "No one can match me in being a trick," she said, proud of herself. "The woman fell for my lie. There really wasn't any snake!" Laura, who was sitting on the ragged couch, looked at her in amusement. She had just gotten home from the hospital after grandmother had slept off. "You're something else, Alessia. But next time, be careful. You might not be so lucky." Laura was already familiar with her friend, Alessia was really a crazy girl and often trick people. Benedetta Luca, a self-made matriarch, stood tall with an air of confidence and poise. Her piercing green eyes sparkled with a hint of mystery, while her raven-black hair cascaded down her back like a waterfall of night. Her porcelain skin glowed with a subtle radiance, as if kissed by the sun itself. Adorned in a tailored black dress that accentuated her curves, Benedetta exuded an aura of power and sophistication. Her presence commanded attention, and her sharp jawline and full lips seemed chiseled by the gods themselves. As the owner of numerous hotels, restaurants, and other business ventures, Benedetta's wealth and influence were undeniable. Yet, her true power lay not in her riches, but in her cunning mind and unwavering determination. Her eyes seemed to hold a thousand secrets, and her enigmatic smile hinted at a depth of knowledge that few could match. Benedetta was a force to be reckoned with, a true matriarch who had build her empire from scratch. As Benedetta entered the MK Group building, the staff greeted her with a chorus of respectful hellos and hastily bowed their heads. Her personal assistant, Sofia, followed closely behind, her eyes fixed on Benedetta's back. Once inside her office, Sofia quickly cleaned the chair before Benedetta settled in. The Chairwoman's gaze snapped up to Sofia, her eyes piercing. "Have you done the work I assigned you, Sofia? You know he will arrive at the airport today. Have you found a perfect candidate? The ones you previously assigned to me were... subpar. If you're not up to the task, tell me now." Sofia's hands trembled slightly as she reached into her handbag and produced a file. "No, no, Chairwoman. I've found a perfect candidate who matches the requirements. Her name is Alessia." Benedetta's eyes narrowed as she accepted the file. Her gaze scanned the contents, her expression unreadable. Finally, she looked up at Sofia. "She looks... pretty. But she's still a pauper from a poor family. Are you certain she's perfect for this job? I don't pay for mistakes, Sofia. If this girl isn't perfect for the job, it will be your head on the chopping block." Sofia swallowed hard, her voice steady. "I'm very sure, Chairwoman. I've reviewed her file and believe she's the best fit." Benedetta's expression turned calculating and she nodded curtly. "Very well. Call her and tell her everything and arrange for her to come to the office tomorrow at 9 AM sharp. I want to see if she's perfect as you claim." With that, she dismissed Sofia, who quickly exited the office. Once outside, Sofia pulled out her phone and dialed Alessia's number. Here's the revised dialogue: Sofia's voice was professional and polite. "Hello, is this Alessia Matteo?" Alessia's response was hesitant, her mind still racing with thoughts of her mother's treatment. "Yes, this is she." Sofia's tone was warm and inviting. "Alessia, my name is Sofia, and I'm calling on behalf of Chairwoman Benedetta of MK Group. We've reviewed your file and would like to discuss a potential opportunity with you." Alessia's curiosity was piqued, but she was also wary. "What kind of opportunity?" Sofia's voice was cautious, revealing only minimal information. "I'd rather discuss that in person, if possible. Do you have time to meet today?" Alessia hesitated, unsure if she should commit to anything. But the prospect of a potential solution to her financial woes was too enticing to ignore. "Yes, I have time. What time were you thinking?" Sofia's response was immediate. "How about 2 PM at Bella Vita restaurant? It's in the city center." Alessia agreed, and Sofia ended the call with a promise to see her soon. Laura's eyes widened with excitement as she set her phone down and looked at her friend. "What's up, girlfriend?" she asked, her voice bubbling with curiosity. Alessia's face was a mix of emotions - hope, anxiety, and a hint of fear. "I think I'll be able to pay for my grandmother's surgery," she said, her voice trembling slightly. Laura's eyes sparkled with interest. "What do you mean? Who was that on the phone?" Alessia took a deep breath, her eyes scanning the room as if searching for an escape. "I think it's a big shot that just called me. They told me to meet them at the fancy restaurant where I went today." Laura's jaw dropped. "Bella Vita? That's where the rich and famous hang out! What's going on, Alessia?" Alessia shook her head, her ponytail swishing behind her. "I don't know, but they mentioned something about a proposal. And they sounded serious." Laura's eyes gleamed with excitement. "This could be it, Alessia! Your ticket out of this mess!" Alessia's expression turned cautious. "Let's not get ahead of ourselves, Laura. I don't even know what this proposal is about." Laura waved her hand dismissively. "Details, details! The point is, you have a chance to change your life. And I'm going to be right there with you, cheering you on!" As Laura hugged Alessia, her eyes shone with a mix of excitement and concern. This could be the break Alessia needed, but what if it came with strings attached? Only time would tell.
