Chapter 11: What’s Therapy

1226 Words
Today was Xander’s fourth session with Doctor Silius. He wasn't quite sure if any of it was helping. Four weeks have gone by. The only proof he had that it was working was the lack of the chill that ran down his spine when he saw a human. Now with the help of breathing and a few other management techniques Xander was able to quench his initial reaction of the vial creatures.  "Alpha, I think its time you bring your mate with you." Silius informed Xander as he stood in his usual spot in the doctors office.  "What?" Xander hadn't known that was ever part of the plan. From the sound of it Silius made it seem like an eventuality that was thought up from the beginning.  "It is time for numb- I mean Cassian to join the sessions. Bring him at the same time next week. We will spend half an hour on the both of you then spend the last half just us." Silius explained.  "Why does he have to be here?" Xander didn't want Cassian under the doctors microscope. Just the little slip up with his mates name showed him exactly how he felt about the boy. It wasn't like Silius hid his disdain for Cassian much anyways.  "Your second request was to work on your relationship with your mate. Couples therapy only works if both parties are present. I think we've worked on enough of your issues that you now have the tools to overcome them. Now its time for the next step. I must say Xander you have impressed me with how well you've taken to therapy. Even when you think a suggestion is stupid and wont work you still try it to the best of your ability. You've come far. " Silius praised.  "I didn't know Cassian would be a part of the actual therapy doc. Can't you just fix me for him?" Xander pressed.  Silius shook his head smiling to himself a bit in amusement. "Sure we could try but what is considered 'fixed' to me and you may not be what Cassian likes. He might want you to try harder in some aspects but not care about other things. What he feels is a big deal and what needs to be worked on might not be on our list. That's why in couples therapy both sides must be heard and a compromise must be met. Sorry Xander but I can not give you a definitive answer until I actually sit down and talk to your mate."  Xander sighed but as expected nodded his head in agreement. This is how most of the sessions ended with Dr. Silius. Him saying something Xander didn't like and Xanded resigning himself to it.  "Have a good day alpha and don't forget to breath." Silius joked. Ever since the first session this had been the doctors send off as a little way to lighten the mood.  "Thanks doc, see you next week." Xander replied turning to go.  "Well sooner than that actually. Don't forget there is that gala coming up on Friday." Silius reminded.  Shit the gala. Amongst all the personal s**t he had almost forgotten the gala. Xander nodded at Silius as if he weren't having an internal panic and placed his hand on the cold mettle nob to go.  Once down the long stretch of hallway to his room he entered quietly. He did this every time he came to sneak up on his mate since the incident with Jullia. They both explained the situation to him but he still was suspicious. Not of Jullia in particular but others taking his mate in general. So he floated into the room as silent as a cloud making sure his mate was safely in his cage and no other wolves or humans were near by.  "Hey Cass." Another thing Xander had picked up. This one a much nicer habit suggested by Silius. Dr. Silius thought that by greeting Cassian in a friendly manner every time he saw him it would associate Cassian with a more positive image.  Cassian was a bit surprised by the greeting the first time it happened but was happy to jump on board. After weeks of being ignored, suddenly getting all this attention from Xander was heaven. He didn't know what had happened to his master but he had to admit he liked it.  "Hi Master." Cassian greeted respectfully.  A greeting was as far as Xander could go at the moment but he hoped Dr. Silius could fix that in their joint therapy session. Speaking of, he would have to mention that to Cassian. Xander was actually happy to have something to say to the boy other than 'hi'.  "Cassian, this Friday is that gala I mentioned before. Then next Wednesday you will be coming with me to my therapy session. The doctor thinks you need to be there." Xander explained.  Cassian tilted his head a bit confused. He hasn't left the room since the mall. "Friday...? That's umm..."  "Floor cleaning." Xander explained using what his mate had learned the days of the week were for. It was odd how the actual name of the day meant nothing to Cassian but you say the chore that was normally performed only on that day and he new right away.  "So three more days until the gala? I get to come?" Cassian asked already too excited for Xander's liking.  "More like you have to. Many high ranking pack members and their mates will be there. I can't just show up empty handed. It will make the other alphas target me. Not that my mate is all that strong. I heard Ben's mate is an alpha's daughter. Not only that but one he was at war with. Now with them mated they no longer fight and they go as far as protecting each other." Xander sighed. He wished something that great would fall into his lap. His worst enemy becoming his strongest ally.  Cassian frowned at the news. He new Xander would resent having a weak human for a mate. He wished he could have been some strong powerful wolf that could have bettered the pack but he wasn't. No he was a weak insignificant slave.  "Now about the therapy on Wednesday, that's t window washing day to you. You don't have to speak if you don't want to but you have to be there." Xander wandered to his bed and laid down. Wanting to rest after each session was also a new habit of his.  "What's therapy?" Cassian asked after a silent few minutes. He hadn't wanted to put Xander in a bad mood by questioning him but wanted to know what he was saying.  Xander opened his eyes that had just been about to close. Half asleep already he answered his mate more honestly then if he had been at full attention.  "Therapy is what's gonna help me love you. Silius will make everything better. We might even have pups one day. Just watch, after a few weeks it will be like magic." Xander’s words were slurred half asleep proclamations but he heard.  The boy laid on his mat on the floor beaming up at the ceiling of the metal cage. Xander was trying to love him? Whatever therapy was Cassian couldn't wait to have some.
