Chapter 10: Unleashed

The world around me had shifted. I felt it in my bones, in the pulse of my heartbeat, in the air that wrapped around my skin like a whisper of something ancient. The weight of the True Alpha’s words still clung to me, poisoning every thought, every breath. “You are the last Luna.” The wind roared through the trees, the energy of the black flames still crackling in my veins. I could feel something inside me—something raw, powerful, and hungry. And I wasn’t sure if I could control it. The True Alpha watched me, his silver eyes sharp with expectation. “Your body is trying to reject it,” he said, voice smooth but edged with steel. “Your mind, your instincts—they still belong to the weak wolf they shaped you to be.” He took a slow step forward. “You need to break her.” I clenched my jaw. “And how do I do that?” His smirk was cold, cruel. “By surviving.” A crack of thunder split the sky—except there were no clouds. I barely had time to react before the shadows around us moved. A blur of motion, faster than any wolf I’d ever seen. The air shifted, and suddenly—pain exploded across my ribs as something slammed into me, sending me flying. I hit the ground hard, the breath ripped from my lungs. What the— Before I could get up, another force struck me—this time at my throat. My back arched as claws pressed against my skin, a growl vibrating in the air above me. I choked on a gasp as I found myself pinned beneath a wolf—no, not a wolf. A beast. Eyes like liquid night bore into mine, wild and unhinged, its body pulsing with the same cursed energy as the fire. Shadowborn. I had heard of them only in legends. Wolves born of darkness, corrupted by power so deep it twisted their very souls. They were myths. They weren’t real. And yet, one was straddling my chest, teeth bared, claws inches from my throat. Terror spiked through me—but underneath it, something else stirred. My wolf howled. Fight. I snarled and moved. Twisting my hips, I slammed my knee into the beast’s stomach. It barely flinched, but the pressure on my throat shifted just enough—enough for me to break free. I rolled, throwing my full weight into a counter-attack. My nails elongated into claws, swiping toward its face— And the moment my claws touched its skin— A shockwave of white-hot energy blasted from my fingertips. The creature howled—not in pain, but in fear. And then it was gone, vanished like smoke dissolving into air. I gasped, my hands shaking, my skin still tingling from whatever I had just done. The True Alpha’s slow, deliberate applause filled the silence. “Interesting,” he murmured, stepping toward me, his gaze filled with something unreadable. “I expected you to run. To cower.” His lips curled. “But you fought.” I pushed myself up, my breaths ragged. “You set that thing on me?” He tilted his head. “Would you rather I had given you another lecture?” I hated him. But more than that—I hated that he was right. The old me would have run. The old me would have hesitated. But now, something inside me had cracked open. I was no longer a forgotten omega. I was something else. And for the first time, I wasn’t afraid of it. The True Alpha smirked, as if reading my thoughts. “Good,” he said softly. “You’re finally waking up.” The wind howled again, and I felt it—power, thick in the air. I wasn’t just surviving anymore. I was becoming.
