That evening, Drew sought out his dad. He found James in the kitchen, breading chicken breasts for their dinner. Drew grabbed some lettuce from the fridge and started chopping it for salad. “Dad?” James lifted his head from the slimy mess on the cutting board and met Drew's eyes, giving him his full attention. “Yes, son?” One thing I've always appreciated about Dad. No matter what's going on, he always makes time to listen. “Can I borrow some money from you?” James lowered one eyebrow. “What for? Is your allowance spent?” “No, but I need more than that.” Drew set the knife down. Can't chop while looking away.
