Originally published as Surakh fi layl tawil by Matba’at al-’Ani, Baghdad, 1955.
The four stories were published as Araq, al-Mughannun fi al-zilal, al-Gharamafun, and al-Shijar in the collection Arak and Other Stories (originally published as Araq wa-qisas ukhra in Beirut by al-Mu’assasah al-ahliyyah li-ltiba’ah wa-l-nashr in 1956). Tawfiq Sayigh’s study Across the Wasteland was published as the introduction to the same volume.
