AMERIE
ROYAL LIFE
Though, I am the one standing before the mirror, yet I only see a beautiful stranger looking back at me. I never imagined I would look this beautiful…regal…sophisticated in this silken gown that clings to my body like water.
The colour is a deep shade of silver that shimmers with even the slightest movement I make and flows down to my knees. Intricate embroidery patterns, woven with threads of silver and tiny diamonds.
My hair is pinned up with delicate pins, a few loose tendrils framing my face. Perfectly as mother had said after the hairdresser had finished.
My lips are painted a soft, glossy pink as my finger and toenails. My eyes glitter with a soft dab of silver eyeshadow above and faint eyeliner beneath. And my brows are perfectly arched with a colour the same shade with my hair.
I release a wistful smile. How I wish Cara and her mom are here to see me. Not that I need their assessment, but I just wish they were here to share this moment with me.
They are my first family and I would want nothing more than to see them again. Even with what happened I still want them to be a part of my life.
And Nathan. I wonder if he is happy with Sasha now? Has he made her his Luna? I wonder why he played me. Made me believe I was his.
And why did he run after me that night? Why did he look hurt? I frown hard and move closer to the mirror, playing the scene from that night again.
Did I miss something? I remember the look on his face while Sasha was kissing him.
Wait…she was kissing...
“You look amazing!” mother gasps from behind me, standing at the open door of my room. Her eyes shining with tears threatening to spill. “My baby!” she joins me at the mirror, holding me close. “You look every inch the princess you were born to be.”
““Thank you, Mother.” My voice is small, and her eyes narrow with concern.
“You’re not happy. What’s wrong?” She circles me, scrutinizing. “Is it the dress? The shoes?”
I chuckle softly, taking her hands. “Everything is perfect, Mother. It’s not that.”
“Then what is it?” She cups my face, her gaze searching mine. “Tell me. I am your mother.”
I drop my eyes, biting my lip. “I was just thinking about Nathan.”
She stiffens slightly, her grip on my hands tightening. “This is not the time to think about him. You’re the princess of the Silvercrest Pack, Amerie. After tonight, you’ll be the most sought-after female wolf in the world. It’s his loss.”
“I think I may have made a hasty decision.”
She frowns and drops her hands, pulling me to the bed. We both sit on it. “Why would you say that?”
“I remembered something while at the mirror,” I bite my lips and look up at her. “I don’t think he was really into kissing her.”
“But he was kissing her…”
“Yes…” I don't how to explain “He was but, he didn’t look like he was enjoying it or into. I don’t know, mother.”
Her frown deepens as she turns her face away. “I won’t say I know what you mean, but,” she turns back to me. “we can discuss this this after your coronation. Now come on, your father is already at the hall.”
She circles me, checking to make sure everything is perfect. “Perfect,” she murmurs. “The guards are at the door. They will escort you to your car,” she leans forward and plant a soft kiss on my forehead. “See you soon, princess.”
“You too, mother,” smiling at her as she waves bye and disappears into thin air from the room.
“Princess,” the guards greet me with nods as I walk out the door.
I smile and follow them down the corridor and into the living room. One of them opens the door for me to walk outside, where another set of guards are waiting. I notice three cars sitting outside, a guard holding the door of the car in the middle. From where the guard stands there is a lush roll of silver rug to where we stand at the house’s entrance.
From my left I see a young girl, almost the same age as me, smiling as she approaches me. Her dark eyes and red hair catch my attention.
“Princess Amerie, my name is Tamia. I am here to wait on you tonight,” she says.
I smile at her and nod. “Nice to meet you Tamia. Thank you.”
She smiles back and join the guards behind me as we move.
“Thank you,” I say to the guard holding the door for me. I doubt if I am going to get used to this.
Tamia enters after me and the car starts to move along with the others in front and behind. As we glide through the pack, I see decorations hanging from doorposts of buildings and trees. People sit in front of their houses, dancing and singing.
The moment they see us, they dash off their feet cheering and waving. Their faces are filled with warmth and excitement.
Small kids run after us, their childish voices screaming “Princess Amerie!”
“They know me?” I ask in disbelief, smiling and waving at the happy faces.
“Yes, princess,” Tamia answers. “This is the royal convoy.”
My heart trembles with warmth and joy. I can feel their genuine love for me and feel a connection brewing between us. I wish I could come down and meet them. Just like I did at Nathan’s pack.
Nathan had allowed me meet the kids after the rogue attack and I had promised them a party. Only I never stayed to fulfill my promise.
The children soon fade into the distance behind us as we move on and soon we reach the front of the grand hall.
Banners of the pack hang from many poles at the entrance, flapping against the wind like restless ghosts.
The driver comes down to help me out to another carpeted walkway lined with warriors. I raise my gown up a little and Tamia clears her throat softly.
“You shouldn’t raise your gown.”
“But I can’t walk up the stairs with it,” I say in confusion.
“That’s why I am here sister,” I hear Midriel say from my left and see him walking towards us. He is dressed in his royal garb and looks so handsome. “Here,” he offers me his arm. “Raise your head up and straighten your shoulders.”
“I really am a princess?” suddenly realizing this is really real.
“Sure, sis. Now let’s go in.”
And with head held up high and shoulders straightened, I follow Midriel inside.
Welcome to royal life, Amerie. I chuckle inside.
