CHAPTER 110

1133 Words
NATHAN ANYTHING? 2 Once everything goes black, I am thrust into another place—into the stillness of an unfamiliar sky. I'm lying on my back in a boat, gazing upward, the stars scattered like specks of silver dust. The moon, bright and full, bathes my face in her cool, serene light. The air smells faintly of salt, the endless night around me. My right palm rests under my head, and my left hand lays softly on my chest. A faint, peaceful smile tugs at my lips, though it feels out of place. As I look up, I can’t help but think of Jessica—her body curled into mine, the warmth of her head on my chest, the scent of lavender and strawberries clinging to her like a gentle breeze. We would lie under the stars like this for hours, our bond thrumming quietly between us. Jessica. Amerie. Whatever name she goes by, she is my mate. Was my mate. My smile falters, fading into a memory filled with pain. I left that world in her arms, feeling the strength of our bond even in my last moments. She wanted me—despite everything that happened with Sasha. I died with her love surrounding me, the warmth of it easing the bitterness of death. But now, what becomes of her? What will she do without me? She deserves a life, a full one, and she’ll find a second chance mate—or be forced to take another, though that idea twists my gut. She’s too beautiful, too captivating for any male not to want her. I feel a sharp pang in my chest, a protest of my fading heart. It’s so unfair. How could I finally find her—only to lose everything in a single day? “Unfair indeed,” a voice, gentle yet commanding, suddenly echoes around me. I sit up, startled, looking around. There’s no one near, but something else grabs my attention—I'm no longer floating on water. The boat sails through the air, as if carried by invisible waves. My pulse quickens, and I scramble backward, my fingers digging into the boat’s smooth surface. “Careful,” the voice laughs softly, the sound like a mother’s playful scolding. “You wouldn’t want to fall.” That’s when I see her. Silver hair spills down past her knees, catching the moonlight like strands of the night itself. Her eyes are sharp, glowing like molten silver, and she’s draped in a gown of shimmering jewels that seem to reflect every star in the sky. The air moves slowly around her, as though even the wind must tread lightly in her presence. “Moon Goddess,” I whisper, my throat tightening. She offers a playful bow, the corners of her mouth lifting. “The one and only. Welcome to my realm, Nathan.” For a moment, I forget to breathe. The reality of where I am, of what has happened, settles like a stone in my chest. I drop my gaze, shoulders sagging under the weight of acceptance. This is it. My life has ended. I’ll never see Jessica again. “It’s peaceful,” I murmur, more to myself than to her. “It is,” she agrees, though there’s a softness to her tone that hints at something more. “But peace is not always eternal, Nathan. Balance requires both peace and chaos.” Her words pull my head up, and I meet her eyes again. A sudden, piercing light flashes through her gaze, and the next moment, I feel as if my heart has been struck by lightning. Pain blossoms deep in my chest, like a fire igniting in my veins. I clutch at my shirt, gasping as the sensation overwhelms me. “That’s your wolf,” she says, her voice gentler now. “He’s returning to you.” I collapse to my knees, the boat steady beneath me, but my body feels like it’s being torn apart from the inside. Every muscle, every bone burns with a sensation both excruciating and…necessary. “Amerie is fighting for you,” she whispers, and her words are like a balm on my pain, though it only grows sharper. “I can’t take you from her—not when you’ve fought so hard to reach her.” The pain surges again, spreading from my chest to my limbs, and then to my head. It’s unbearable, a force trying to rip me apart from within. My vision blurs, the edges of the world spinning. I hear the Moon Goddess chuckle softly, her voice fading as I collapse, my body surrendering to the agony. And I fall into a black, blissful sleep. Sometime later, I feel fingers, cool and delicate, brushing against my face. My skin hums under their touch, sparks zipping through me as if every nerve has come alive. Her scent fills the air around me—lavender and strawberries—wrapping me in comfort. My flower. Her hands move gently, wiping at my face. I can’t speak, my body weak, my tongue too heavy, but I know it’s her. Jessica. Amerie. “Flower,” I try to say, but the word is only in my mind. I hear her speaking with someone, her voice soft but urgent, and then I feel myself lifted, strong hands settling me back into bed. The cool press of something against my chest grounds me, though my senses are still distant. More voices. Footsteps. A door closing. And then the bed dips beside me, and she’s there—Jessica. She wraps her arms around me, pulls me close to her chest, and my heart stirs to life. Her warmth envelops me, the beat of her heart pounding against my ear, steady and sure. Each beat is a promise, a declaration of her love. “I won’t leave until you wake up,” she whispers, her lips brushing against my hair. She holds me tighter, her body melting into mine. “I’ll be here.” Exactly where I want her to be. Always beside me. Her fingers trace the line of my jaw, a soft, tender motion that makes my pulse quicken. I can feel the depth of her love in every touch, but beneath that, there’s something more—guilt. “I’m sorry, Nathan,” she murmurs, her voice thick. “I’m so, so sorry for everything. Please forgive me. I’ll do anything to make it right.” Forgive her? I would never need her to ask. I will always forgive her before she even needs to asks. But still, I can’t resist teasing her. “Anything?” I murmur, my voice barely a whisper, but it’s enough. I feel her heart skip, her breath catching in her throat as the word sinks in.
