Chapter 9

1431 Words

9 This time, I come around much easier. My eyes open without the stickiness. And, while I’m a little groggy still, my head feels a lot clearer. “Hey,” Bram says softly, stroking my cheek gingerly. He’s being careful of the cut I know is there. I look away. I’m ashamed of being caught and don’t want him to know quite how much. “Ashryn…” Despite myself, I turn back and meet his gaze. The devotion in them isn’t what I expect. “Bram?” I croak. Why does my voice hurt so much? “I’m here. Remus is too,” he says. “Dimitri is still setting charges, before you ask.” Remus chuckles off from the side and I manage to give them both a weak smile. “I told you she’d want to know that,” Remus says. “I wouldn’t expect anything less.” Bram’s talking to the other man but doesn’t look away from me.
