Chapter 4 September 1966 Eron sat in his office on a Tuesday morning reviewing briefs for his appearance in federal court the next Monday. He looked up at the clock expecting it to say one or two, but its hands rested at ten in the morning. Eron tried to focus on the papers in front of him. Roger Smith wasn’t the only one that had been demonstrating, but police targeted him as the ringleader. Smith contacted the ACLU for help, which in turn assigned the case to Eron.
