I couldn’t hide my surprise at what he had just told me and started to hyperventilate. I sat back down, staring at nothing in particular with wide eyes as I tried to process everything. My mind kept racing with many different thoughts. What are Celestials? How did I become one? What does this mean? Almost as if he could read my thoughts, I heard Rufus ask, “Would you like us to tell you what a Celestial is? We don’t have all the answers you seek, but we’re willing to help with what little we do know about what you are.” I looked up at all three of them before nodding my head and saying, “Please tell me. I honestly have no clue about any of this. I didn’t even know dragons were still around until I –” I couldn’t bring myself to say and Rufus nodded understandingly. He knew exactly what I was referring to. Eros and Dante sat down with us and they all shared a look before Rufus said, “A Celestial refers to the most powerful being in our race born of Royal blood, but unlike other Royals, they are much stronger. They’re said to have powers that could rival even the most powerful dragon sorcerer. They are very rare to come by and are usually born as males. However, when a female is born as a Celestial she will be the most powerful being in existence. When she comes of age, her powers will begin to awaken and when she mates with her mate, her powers will fully awaken and make him stronger with her mark. The bond between a Celestial and her mate is said to be much stronger than that of an ordinary dragon mating bond. One of our most famous lores tells of a female, Celestial that can either bring all the kingdoms, dragons and humans, together and bring about a new age of peace.” I nodded my head, listening intently to every word, but still struggling to wrap my mind around all this information, when Dante spoke up, “Why don’t you tell her about the other half of that story?” I looked at him confused while Rufus glared daggers at his brother. I looked at Rufus and asked, “What does he mean, Rufus? There’s another half to the story?” Before Rufus could say anything to reassure me, Dante chimed in saying, “Oh there is! The other half of that story is –”
“Dante, enough!” Eros scolded.
“She should know that –”
“Not another word!”
As Eros and Dante were arguing, I looked at Rufus and asked with a very shaky voice, “Rufus? What is Dante talking about? What’s the other half of the story?” Rufus sighed loudly, which caught the attention of his brothers as they stopped arguing to pay attention to Rufus, who said, “Yes, there is another half to the story. The other half tells of the female Celestial being persuaded to join the Banes and help them destroy every human as well as make every dragon bow down to them, which would bring about the beginning of the Dark Ages.” I gasped in fear before asking, “Is this going to happen to me?” I began to cry involuntarily at the thought of helping the Banes destroy everything. Rufus gently pulled me into his arms and held me gently while whispering sweet words. While in his arms, I felt it. I felt that pull to be closer to him and inhaled deeply. I sighed contently when the scent of chocolate and coffee filled my nostrils as he chuckled at me.
“Do I smell very enticingly to you?”
“Yes, you do. Why is that Rufus?”
“Because you’re my mate, Lucifera. I’ve known it since I met you when you were ten and I was thirteen.” I leaned back with my mouth dropping open for the millionth time within the last hour as I looked him in the eye. He smiled back at me before chuckling, “Now that I’ve told you all that the three of us know. How are you feeling?” I looked down contemplating what I was feeling before saying, “I’m honestly pretty overwhelmed by all this new information, but I’m glad to have you guys with me. Even if one of you is a royal jackass.” I looked up at Dante with a playful glare which got even him to c***k a smile and say, “Guilty!” After that, we all burst into laughter before getting down from the roof.
