United Front

The neutral valley was quiet under the midday sun, the ancient stones glowing faintly with old runes. Iron Fang warriors stood on one side, Lycans on the other. The air felt charged, expectant. Alpha Riven stepped forward, extending his hand to Thorne. "King Blackwood," he said. "Flame Queen." Thorne clasped his forearm. "Alpha Riven." Riven turned to me. "We have heard of your power. We have seen the aftermath of Silver Claw's retreat. We believe the prophecy is true." I met his gaze. "We do not ask for belief. We ask for alliance." He smiled small, approving. "Then you have it." The alliance was sealed with blood and oath. Each warrior cut their palm, pressed it to the central stone. The runes flared briefly, binding the promise. I added my blood last. The flame inside me surged, golden light spreading across the stone, sealing the pact. Riven looked at me. "The flame approves." I nodded. "It does." We returned to the castle together—Iron Fang scouts riding alongside ours. The journey was tense but hopeful. For the first time, we were not alone. That evening, the war room was filled. Maps covered the table. Commanders from both sides stood shoulder to shoulder. Thorne and Riven led the discussion. "The remaining packs will come together," Thorne said. "Ember Ridge and Nightshade have already joined forces. They will attack in full strength within the week." Riven nodded. "We have spies in their camps. They plan to strike the eastern border where the defenses are thinnest." Seraphina pointed to the map. "We can reinforce there, but we need to draw them out. Force them into open ground." I looked at the map. "Or we meet them head-on. Show them the alliance. Show them the flame." All eyes turned to me. Thorne studied me. "You are ready for that?" "I am." Riven smiled. "Bold. I like it." The plan was set. We would march at dawn, Lycans and Iron Fang together. We would meet the enemy on the open plain before they reached our borders. We would show them the flame queen was not a prize to be claimed. She was a force to be reckoned with. That night, I stood on the balcony with Thorne. The moon was high, the stars bright. "You do not have to lead the front line," he said. "I do," I replied. "They need to see me. They need to know I am not hiding." He turned to me. "I will not lose you." "You will not." I took his hand. "We fight together." He pulled me close. The bond flared, warm and bright. I rested my head against his chest. "Promise me," I said. "No matter what happens, we come back to this." "I promise." I looked up. He kissed me slow, deep, filled with everything we had fought for. The flame inside me glowed, golden and steady. When we parted, I smiled. "Tomorrow." "Tomorrow," he echoed. Dawn came. We marched out, Lycans and Iron Fang side by side. I rode at the front, Thorne on one side, Riven on the other. The necklace glowed against my skin, the flame ready. The enemy waited on the plain, Ember Ridge and Nightshade united, five hundred strong. Their alphas stood at the front, eyes fixed on me. Thorne raised his sword. "For the packs. For the future." The cry echoed across the field. We charged. The clash was immediate with steel, claws, howls, and flame. I raised my hands. A wall of fire erupted, forcing the enemy back. The alliance surged forward, Lycans and Iron Fang fighting as one. I moved through the battle, directing bursts, raising shields, whipping flame like a lash. The necklace channeled the power, keeping it controlled. I was no longer afraid. Thorne fought beside me, guarding my back. When a wolf lunged, he intercepted. When I faltered under a heavy blow, he was there, pulling me up. We were a unit bonded, unbreakable. The enemy faltered. Their alphas called retreat. We had won again. But as the field cleared, I saw something that chilled me. Kai stood on the ridge, watching. His eyes met mine. He did not attack. He simply watched. Then he turned and disappeared into the trees. Thorne followed my gaze. "He is not done." "I know." I touched the necklace. The flame burned steady. We had won the battle. But the war was far from over.
