Chapter Three: I Must Escape!
The staff was in a chaotic mess as they scrambled around in panic, and even the director rushed to greet the guest.
Because the one and only Phoenix Montgomery is now walking down the corridor in all his glory. Because Phoenix himself brought Athena to the hospital and demanded they put her in the VIP room. The staff had no idea who the woman was, but she was still treated like royalty.
"Good evening, Mr. Montgomery,"
The man the doctor greeted was lost in his thoughts, but he was snapped out of it when the director greeted him.
Phoenix looked at the man's face. "Is she dead?" He asked without beating around the bush.
"No, sir!" The director responded instantly, with beads of sweat forming on his forehead. "She's fine. You hit her hips a little, but it is not something to worry about. However, her wounds and bruises appear to be caused by someone beating her."
"An assault?" Phoenix asked with a frown, and the director swallowed nervously at the angry look on his face.
His reputation is on the line, so the director couldn't afford to make any mistakes. He has to do everything to impress Phoenix Montgomery.
"Yes, but it's not because of what happened. I believe someone hit her before that."
'Hm, so I had nothing to do with her injuries? Then why the hell am I here wasting my time? 'Phoenix snapped in his mind.
"So she won't die?"
"Of course not, sir. Her wounds are not serious, and she can be discharged tonight. She just needs ointment and a few medicines to take, and that's all."
"Well, then. I'm leaving."
"Wait, Mr. Montgomery!" The director rushed after Phoenix.
"What?" He snapped at the man who tried to stop him.
"How about the woman, sir?"
"Who?"
"The woman you hit... but it's because she wasn't being careful?" The director asked carefully with his heart in his throat.
The hospital has no information whatsoever about the woman and not even a name, so how? Does Phoenix Montgomery know her?
"Does it look like I know her?" Phoenix asked in sarcasm.
"But do you want to see the patient? Maybe you'll recognize her?" The director insisted despite feeling afraid.
Phoenix thought for a second before sighing. "Alright. I'll see her, then I'll leave."
'I'll give her some money as compensation for hitting her and tell her to f**k off," Phoenix said in his mind.
The director guided Phoenix to the room where Athena was, and he observed the unconscious woman. He noticed her thin figure and pale complexion, but still, one could not deny the beauty she had despite the bruises. He remembered what the doctor said about someone beating her. Phoenix may be known as someone ruthless, merciless, and someone who does not give a damn if his words are hurting someone. But his mother taught him to never lay a hand on a woman, no matter what they did to him.
Phoenix took the remaining cash from his wallet before placing it on top of the table. He was about to leave when he felt a warm hand gripping his arm.
"Please save me!" Athena begged with bruises on her face, her lips busted, and her eyes red from crying.
"What's wrong with you, woman? Who do you need saving from?"
Athena burst out crying, and she suddenly hugged the man in front of her.
Phoenix froze because, truth be told, he was not a fan of having physical contact with women. Yes, he was fine with it during s*x that he needed every now and then, but that's it. A hug and a kiss? They do not exist in his world! Even when he felt the warmth that she was giving him. Phoenix removed her arms around him, and she almost fell to the ground.
Athena blinked, still in a daze. Her eyes looked up to see the look the man was giving her, and she observed him. He was tall, his hair was as dark as midnight, and his icy, cold blue eyes were staring at her, and it made her want to shiver.
"I—"
"Did you see me as your savior? You almost killed me and my car broke down! I don't know what kind of mess you got into, but I don't care either. Take that money and don't bother me," Phoenix told Athena with that kind of look that will scare you.
And Athena couldn't help but compare the man to her husband, Brian. Strange enough. She was not as afraid of the stranger as she was of her own husband.
Phoenix left without saying anything more, and Athena remained on the bed while shaking and crying.
'All men have no heart,' Athena found herself saying to herself.
She has no choice but to get the money because she needs to leave the hospital, but where will she go? She has no one to turn to.
Athena sighed in helplessness before leaving the fancy room she was in. She had no money to pay for her hospital bills, so how could she afford it? She peeked outside and tried to act like nothing. She watched as the cold man entered the elevator with another man, and their eyes connected for a second.
"The hell? That is the woman I ran over. I thought she was hurt-" Phoenix couldn't continue what he was saying because the door closed.
The man with him, Elon, Phoenix's assistant, turned to his boss, who looked dumbfounded.
"Do you want me to have her investigated?"
"For what?" Phoenix asked, still confused by what he saw.
'Why would I want that woman to be investigated?' He asked himself, but he couldn't deny that he was curious.
Athena, who was left outside the elevator, looked down and decided to leave. She thought of staying at a cheap hotel when a voice caused her whole body to freeze in fear.
"They told me that a woman who got run over by a car was taken here, and I think she's my wife. She's twenty-five years old, thin, pale, normal height. She's nothing special and not noticeable, really, and she can be clumsy at times. Maybe her stupidity is the reason why she got into an accident." Brian described to the nurse while laughing, and the nurse only stared at him strangely.
"There is indeed a patient like that here, and maybe she's who you're looking for."
Brian's mouth curled into a malicious smile, and Athena was frightened when she saw it. Fear ran all over her body.
"If he sees me now, he will kill me for sure. I must escape!"
