EVELYN – APRIL 1946
Evelyn sat in the ladder-backed chair facing the desk and the attorney, George J. Amos. Russell was in a similar chair to her right. The attorney had been recommended by Hoffman, and Russell had told her that if she didn't contest the divorce, the one attorney could handle the legalities of filing the petition. They had already met with the man several times to map out the agreement, and Evelyn had struggled to maintain her composure at each one. How could she nod and smile and say she agreed, when she didn't agree? Damn it! She didn't want this, but she was powerless to stop it. Russell would not bend to her pleas to try to work things out, so this was it.
Today was the final review of the terms. Henry was here, too, making sure that everything was fair for Evely
