21 REGINA – FEBRUARY 1943 Regina liked her job at the Cadillac hotel. Cleaning rooms was a lot easier than cooking at Coney Island and then scrubbing the stoves and mopping the floors. No matter how hard she scrubbed, she never could get all the grease off the floors or off herself when she got home. At the hotel, she just had to change beds, vacuum, dust, and clean bathrooms. Some guests left their rooms so neat, it was almost like nobody had been there. Others? Well, that was another story. Regina didn't know how some people could be so disrespectful as to leave garbage overflowing the wastebaskets, tubs that looked like someone did their business there, and bathroom sinks coated with something she didn't recognize.
