Marcus smirked. “You’ve chosen the wrong side, Voss. The girl’s power will corrupt you both.” With that warning, he and the surviving elders retreated, vanishing in bursts of teleportation magic.

The lobby fell silent except for our ragged breathing.

Kael turned me in his arms, cupping my face with bloodied hands. His amber eyes were stormy with regret and fierce possession. “I swear on my life, Selene, I didn’t know about your parents. My father… he kept many secrets. But I’m not him.”

I wanted to believe him. The mate bond screamed for me to trust him. But the shadows whispered of vengeance.

He lifted me, carrying me to the elevator and up to the penthouse suite in record time. The moment the door closed, he had me pinned against the floor-to-ceiling window overlooking the glittering city.

“I’ll prove it to you,” he growled, dropping to his knees. He spread my thighs and buried his face between them, tongue devouring me with ruthless skill. I cried out, fingers tangling in his hair as waves of pleasure crashed over me. Shadows danced around us, stroking him while he licked and sucked until I came hard on his tongue.
