The two weeks following the Halloween party went by in a flash. Ruth had built in a routine of going to the café in the morning, and again on her way home. She had decided against any more lunches with Chris as she was busy with exam season. Chris understood. He would never admit that he was perfectly happy with the new situation. Chris and Matthias ended up deciding it was time they hired someone, and they followed Ruth’s advice. They got two university students who would take over the counter work for a few hours every day.
