Alaistar had insisted on taking everyone to eat something during the recess. Ruth could barely take a bite. She held Chris’ hand most of the time and didn’t say a word. These were the longest two hours in her life. She thought about what Lluc had said, that her case could make of this a better place for others who suffer, so they would come forward and they would be protected too.
She took Chris’ hand and walked out to the street with him.
“Are you okay?” she asked. Chris squeezed her hand.
“Me? That’s irrelevant. How are you?” he said.
“I looked at him” she said. “I can’t believe I fell for him.”
“Don’t go that way. Don’t blame yourself for any of this” Chris answered. Ruth laughed loudly until tears came down her eyes, which was very confusing for him.
