When I got to the imposing bronze gates that led into Duffy Park, sure enough a large black SUV was already idling there, waiting for me. I couldn’t see through the tinted windows, but something told me it was him. I mean, it could have been that he had literally told me he would be showing up in a car just like it, but even if he hadn’t... when I spotted the car, the ever present wail that had been echoing in my head since I’d woken up this morning finally just disappeared. Just like that. And in its place I felt a blanket of calm, like I’d just woken up from whatever fever dream I’d been in.
