Lessie's POV
It was the night of our last day working through the stacks of files with my colleagues. Once we finally finished, I cleared my desk, stifling a yawn.
"Are we heading home already?" Lucy asked, her face showing pure exhaustion.
"Lazybones," David teased, smirking at her. Lucy almost jumped out of her seat in anger. "What the heck? Who are you calling lazy? I've been working nonstop for a whole week, and you're calling me lazy!" she huffed, swinging her hand at him. David dodged her with a laugh, causing Lucy to chase after him, fuming.
I chuckled at their childish antics before turning back to pack my things neatly.
Besides David, Lucy, Charlotte, and me, a few more of my colleagues were still working late that night. We had all tackled our tasks based on our individual roles.
Once my bags were packed, I noticed Benjamin walking in, his white shirt rumpled from the day's work.
"Boss, we're all done now, and we're about to head out," Lucy spoke again, clearly as drained as the rest of us.
"No," Benjamin said, to everyone's shock. We all gasped in unison. After all our hard work, was he really about to stop us from leaving?
Thankfully, before anyone could express their frustration, Benjamin quickly clarified.
"Hey, relax. I said no because I’m treating everyone to dinner," he explained.
"Really?" we all asked, our stomachs growling in response.
Benjamin nodded, and as if on cue, we all realized just how hungry we were. The mention of dinner seemed to revive us.
“But why dinner all of a sudden?” I suddenly asked in the midst of joyful noise. Everyone looked at me and also faced Benjamin with a questioning gaze.
Although the idea of having dinner at a restaurant with my colleagues excited me, I couldn't shake off the thought that Benjamin's generosity tonight seemed out of the blue, especially after a week of non-stop work.
Benjamin chuckled, glancing my way. "I was waiting for someone to ask. We landed the deal!"
"What deal?" our receptionist asked eagerly.
"The business deal we all thought we'd lost," Benjamin replied, his voice brimming with excitement. For a brief moment, the entire office went silent before erupting into cheers.
"I can't believe we actually closed the deal! I know how hard Lessie and the boss worked for it. All your effort paid off!"
I smiled, feeling just as relieved and elated as everyone else. They were right—I'd poured my heart into securing this deal, and it felt incredible to see the results.
"Alright, let's go," Benjamin said, and with a new burst of energy, everyone eagerly gathered their things and followed him out of the office.
As we stepped outside, I suddenly stopped dipping my hands into my pocket. Benjamin looked at me, puzzled to know who'd called. "What's up?”
“My phone is ringing..” I took out my phone and put it next to my ears as everyone waited for me.
“Is this Mrs Green on the line?” A female voice was heard on the other side of the call.
“Yes it's me. Please who am I speaking with?” I asked and immediately I heard the female response my hands slipped off, and my phone landed to the floor.
“What?” I shouted, nearly falling to the ground.
“What's the matter Lessie? Who called?” My colleagues anxiously asked. Even Benjamin wasn't left out. He was looking scared with a questioning face.
I got a grip of myself before answering weakly. “It's my son. He's at the hospital.”
“Ah you should hurry up and go to the hospital already. Do you know the address?”
“Yes, I know the address. The lady on call already told me.” I took my bag that had fell off to the ground and gave my colleagues a grateful smile, before turning wanting to leave.
However, Benjamin stopped him almost immediately. I looked at him.
“I'll take you there. Get in my car.” He said, as he already started to approach his car.
“Its okay. I brought my car to work today so I'll use that.” I quickly spoke even though I could see how adamant he was. He'd promised everyone dinner and I can't be the reason for the cancelled dinner.
Before Benjamin could argue, I quickly took off running to the car park.
“Bye Lessie. Watch the road!” My colleagues all waved their hands at me and I could still see their worries for me.

At the hospital room, filled with disseptic smell, I stood pacing back and forth, my face all filled with panic and anxiousness. I only stopped when I saw the male doctor look at me.
“Is he alright now?” I asked,
“Yes sure, he can be discharged now. Just make sure he takes enough rest.”
I watched as the doctor took a little at James pulse before taking his tab book about leaving the room but stopped.
“And also always watch him closely.” He added and I nodded practically.
When he stepped out, I quickly went to James who had now opened his eyes, his face all paled.
“James you scared mommy!” I threw my mouth at his face throwing affectionate kisses. Only I knew just how much my heart had jumped when I heard that stranger my boy was at the hospital.
“Mommy I miss you.”
“I miss you too James. Where's Jasmine?” I darted my eyes. I haven't seen her around the hospital since I got here but I couldn't ask James who was being treated.
Before James could respond, the room door cracked open and a small adorable figure came in with a woman.
“Jasmine,” I called out and when she saw me she jumped and ran towards me seeking for a hug.
“Mommy you're back. I and James misses you.” She shouted excitedly.
“Yes I'm back but I can see James illness acted up again.” I looked down at James sadly. James and jasmine were both twins but sadly James had a week body. After his birth the doctor had told me he'd a weak body and even his breathing then was weak.
I always stay awake at midnight just to be with him. Fortunately due to the doctor help James health stabilise a little and he could sleep well but now this..
“Where did you and Jasmine went to? I came to the hospital since but I didn't see you two.” I looked up at their nanny who had followed Jasmine into the ward.
