CAMPING TRIP

( Present day)
I never really liked going out side or outdoor activities, in fact i don't want to breathe the same air as others, but sacrifices had to be made and if it was the only way to get my dad to let me hang out with my best friend, count me in.
“so you actually want to go to this summer camp Jasmine?” Dad looked at me with his lips in a thin line
“yes I do" I nodded, my face neutral
“ how long?"
“ three days"
“ where's the location"
“ the woods in the park"
“what park"
“Samuel P. Taylor State Park"
“ who's hosting it"
“ my school but we could bring other people from other schools"
Dad looked at me hard and I remained calm, refusing to crack under his stare.He always made sure to not let us go out without enough information about where, because according to him the world isn't safe and yaddy yaddy yah.
I'm not ungrateful or anything, he's probably speaking from experience as a retired Navy officer so I get his view and I made it a point to find enough information about this camp before tabling it to him. But sometimes he came be a bit too much.
I kept my face neutral despite feeling slightly nervous under his stare
“ do you have a friend you're going with"
“Erika"
He visibly relaxed when I called my best friend's name
“good kid I guess, you're in good hands then, I'll see you when you get back then. love you Jas”
“ so is that a yes?"
Dad smiled a bit and nods before kissing my forehead focusing on his phone
I turned and skipped to my room to start packing
“ so dad let you go for it hm? ”
I looked up to see James poking his head into my room
“ yeah he agreed, if you're not busy I want you to take me and Erika please"
He grinned at me but I see the slight shift when i mentioned Erika.
He seemed to not like her for reasons God knows
“ of course popsicle"
“ I told you to stop calling me that"
“ no can do"
I glared at him before zipping up my suitcase
“ you're done already?”
“ I'm only spending three days James"
He shook his head at me like Mom does when she's disappointed
“ I can't have you repeating outfits, you have a whole wardrobe of clothes and you packed that little thing, come on"
“fine do it yourself"
I stepped aside to let him ravage through my wardrobe, flinging clothes at me, some i didn't even know I had
By the time he was done, my bed was already covered in clothes
“ all for a three days trip to the woods?”
He shrugged unbothered while helping me fold it into my suitcase
“ hey Jasmine? " he spoke softly
“ yeah? ”
“ be safe okay, I don't mind punching anyone if they hurt you "
“you can go to jail for that" I joke a bit but his face didn't shake a smile or show amusement
“ I'm serious, about this"
“ I promise and even if you did go to jail, I'll ask javlon to come bail you out"
“ whatever"
He brought his fist and I bump it with mine before he smiled at me and dragged my suitcase downstairs while I lock my door
“ Angel take care okay? " mom says as she comes out the kitchen while wiping her hands with a small smile and hugs me
“ I will"
I felt a little lick on my ankle and saw my dog, Gray
“i love you too baby" I bent and kissed his snort
“ let's go already" James shouted from outside
I waved Mom again before turning and walking to the car.
“why do I have to pick up Eliza, doesn't she have a sibling that can do that" James scowled at me
“ Her name is Erika, and we wanted to go together" I retorted
Erika was already outside when we pulled up, sitting on her suitcase scrolling her phone like she'd been waiting forever even though we were on time.
She grinned before pocketing her phone
"Finally" she said climbing in
"We're not late" James said flatly
"I know" she smiled sweetly at him in the rearview mirror
James said nothing. I hid my smile
“ you're ready baby girl? " Erika grinned at me and I grinned back
“ to spend time with you? yes, outdoor activities no"
she shaked her head while laughing and we continued to chatter till we get there with James occasionally throwing unnecessary shades at Erika and her retorting back.
